Not much to report today. I was thinking a lot about cravings and why so many get them. Then yesterday my daughter was celebrating her dog's birthday and bought him doggy ice cream to share with the other dogs, and cake for her and her dad to celebrate. Yes, our family considers the dogs as family. They would have all had birthday hats and toys but she could not find any in the store she went to.

Anyways, our dogs are fed only dog food. Very seldom to they get to eat scraps or people food. They don't beg for food usually because they know they won't get it. Well, today every single dog (three of them) kept coming and begging for people food whenever someone was eating. To the point we had to crate them to get them to settle down.

This brought up my thoughts from above about cravings. Are dogs similar to people in this manner? They can go weeks, months, years, eating the same diet and never want or beg for something different. But then when they get a taste of a sweet or high carb or something new, they will beg for it on their life - no concern for anything but getting more of what they had.

It will take a few days to weeks of retraining to get them to forget their urges and go back to accepting their original diet. I know in both the Ketogenic diet and the 72' Atkins diet it tells you if you fall off track to go back to the induction week or fast for 3-4 days. So maybe we are similar in this area.

Any thoughts?

I think you are right. When I had dogs I had to refocus their obsession. Now I do the same with a Congo African Gray parrot. He screams till he gets his treats, so I try to refocus that desire with a new word or phrase. Sometimes I do that too, learning a new language, not my own. 😁🇨🇮

My parrot still takes one small lick of coffee every day with the hope that it will have lots of sugar in it like my ex BF used to drink - it's been 5 years and he won't give up trying.
