KayBuckaroo's Journal, 16 July 2018

Okay so this job just went from intense to insane in a matter of days. I’m working 14 days straight, and now I’m on a new assignment. The foreman is “loaning “me to another boss, and rather than working the ship’s engine room, I’m painting a huge open space of a new ship - a mod - that’s housed inside a 60 foot hanger. I fold up my body to paint tiny pockets and I climb on top 20 foot catwalks to balance on cribbing beams and paint the ceiling. ...and walls, and floors.. painting everything. And I’m exhilarated! I’m seeing my edge coming through: I don’t drink or smoke, and I have stamina. One year ago I wouldn’t have!!!!! I’m pushing myself, and everything I have is going into this job. I’m so physically exhausted and at the same time so emotionally happy I actually have a second wind when I get home. When I was in nursing I rarely had any joy or energy for my family at the end of the day. What a difference. I feel on top of the world tonight.

The hubby and I went grocery shopping, got corn on the cob, fresh Jazz apples, sunflower seeds, fresh kale (for kale chips) and mixed herb salad....all for tomorrow. We went just for something to do. We love people watching. And since we’re both at work 90% of our awake hours of our day, it’s important to spend those moments together when we can. Yesterday it was suntanning in the yard together. It’s tough because we say good night so early- my husband went to bed at 8, he is getting up at 2. I’m watching the Bachelorette with my cat and journaling, digesting my silly dinner. Silly because I had ice cream for dinner.... 2 pints. It only totaled 600 calories, and it was delicious. I was just too tired to cook anything and I’m like, Go for it.

Wow amazing. Good thing you are journaling all this so you can go back and read it at a future date.

It’s called an adrenaline junkie— that’s me. I’m so glad you found something that makes you feel that exhilaration. I so know that feeling.

Kenna yes guilty as charged. I got into medicine because of adrenaline. I love the feeling of it being so hard but putting everything you have in and succeeding. The heights and confined spaces are just an added bonus 🤠

Kay— that is why I loved ER medicine best of all. Those doors.would open, or the medic phone would ring and you had to be ready to deal with anything. RUSH.

Chris our yard has 6 ships, 4 in the water and 5 100’ warehoused projects with dis articulated ship modules, before they’re welded together. I’m on a different ship. Mine is one that hasn’t been welded together and it isn’t in the water yet.

Kay— I loved everything I did over the years, but truely ER was the BEST. Plus I worked with some of the best docs and nurses ever. We are all still friends and spend time with each other a lot. Another fun job was as a flight nurse transporting injured loggers from their sites to hospital via helicopter. 44 years of really good times.
