Ok, this is copied from a response I made to a post, but not everyone would be able to see that post. The article in question can be seen here: https://www.vox.com/2018/1/3/16845438/exercise-weight-loss-myth-burn-calories

The trouble with articles written by non-researchers is that the authors did not do the research and do not understand the results. In the past, writers have jumped on the exercise and the fat-free fallacies. I do agree, however, with this author. Exercise is great for health. Your numbers will improve greatly with exercise, but it has very little effect on actual weight loss. The only research I myself have done on medical topics is to follow published articles by doctors. I like the ones who have seen good results in the very long-term - like for a decade or more.

My long-term results of intense exercise were some very good numbers in my 20s and 30s. Exercise resulted in a consistent BP of 90/63 and total cholesterol near 100. My weight, however, crept up. Even in my 40s, I seemed to be doing well with BG, BP, and cholesterol, but the food pyramid was catching up with me, and I became morbidly obese.

In my 50s, I was diagnosed with hypertension, diabetes, and heart disease. I could no longer exercise like I used to. A few months ago, I started keto, and it has made a BIG difference in my health. I am able to walk again, and seldom experience angina when I do. (I want to speed walk, but my heart tells me I can't.) My morning BG is still high, but a keto doctor explained that this was due to my liver releasing stored energy, and not do to insulin resistance.

We should exercise for our own health, but it is not the end-all of weight loss.
