So, the nutritionist I just saw - who doesn't subscribe to any low-carb WOE - told me that I should eat a serving of fruit 30 minutes before going outside to do yard work for two hours. Seems counterintuitive if one is hoping to stay in ketosis. Input?

I agree with you...did you ask her why she would recommend "a piece of fruit" if she understood that you were going Lo-carb. It is possible to have a fruit and still be low carb. Probably not Keto...but certainly lo carb. She may have a reason? I'd call her ...or email her in a nice way....and ask. See what she says. If she does't answer...well then ...there you go.

Primarily because at (or about) 1.5 to 2.0 hours into my activity, I (almost) pass out... and, I did make it clear I was doing something close to Atkins Induction.

Maybe bump up your sodium/ electrolyte intake if you almost feel like you are gonna pass out. Be carefully :)

Great advice, I will do that - thanks!

I have read many people eat a tablespoon of coconut oil before workouts or physical activity, which helps with energy levels. This, in addition to salt water or something for electrolytes should help. Also, you could drink half the salt water before hand, then the other half midway through.

Strange advice to someone who is low carbing. I drink coffee with coconut oil, heavy cream and butter before I work out. I also add sea salt to my water.

There's different types of keto diets. I'm assuming you're doing the standard (skd) but there's other types, one being Targeted Keto (Tkd) where you eat some simple carbs (high GI) before working out, just to give you energy; you burn it off as you work out

I stopped listening to doctors long ago. They are still operating on the old assumptions of 40 years ago. Do what you think/feels is best......after all it's your body. When I worked in the yard I ate like I normally did while lo-carbing. I just made sure I had plenty of protein onboard so I wasn't burning muscle. I probably had terrible keto-breath, but oh well. lol (I grew spearmint and chewed on a few leaves when needed)

Fruit, being high in sugar, will knock you out of ketosis. See Dr. Eric Berg's videos on YouTube.

I have friends that can have a couple of berries and not have it affect them. I on the other hand cannot! I think every one is different! I agree with the rest, maybe a Powerade zero to help replenish the electrolytes.

@Trucker Larry - I hear ya'... it's about the only thing I miss (boss recently brought in watermelon for everyone... I was conflicted to say the least).
