Sandy701's Journal, 05 October 2011

3.1 miles walked this morning with 1 doggy, other doggy along for 1.9 miles. Clear, dry, sunny day with temps right around 70; 77 when I finished.

Feeling stronger, with respect to the peanuts, today. Yesterday, I was still wondering if this could be the very, very beginning of me slowly losing my grip on this WOE. But today, I feel like those thoughts are just part of this whole process. I won't always feel solidly in control every single day, so I need to recognize those feelings for what they are and come up with some coping strategies.

It's truly that simple. Recognize obstacles and come up with solutions. As Nike says, "Just do it."

I also need to apply that philosophy to some other areas of my life where I just take way too much time making decisions.....weighing options, playing out all the what-if scenarios, comparing, evaluating, etc. Some of that is good, it's true, but I have a tendency to get too bogged down in the details and never get the decision made, the work done. Then, I end up feeling overwhelmed with everything that still needs to be done!

So, for today, no peanuts, and I will handle at least one thing I've been procrastinating on.

Off to face the day!!!

Sandy, I have the same feelings...as I told Sophie last night, I had a conversation with baby sis when she got out of the hospital. I told her that everyday when I wake up, I have to make a conscious decision to keep at it...it is a struggle every single day...one that I will battle for the rest of my life. You are doing fabulous....have a great day and great job with the walk!

Sandy, I am glad you are feeling stronger & better today, me too! Some days are just harder than others, but you did good, you came here, talked things through & made it through the day. I understand about the worry that goes with making a wrong choice. You are doing great with your choices & great with your walking. Those pesky peanuts do NOT stand a chance!

Congrats on another day without peanuts! I thought of you last night as I was eating my tiny portion of apple slices with peanut butter. It was so good I had to make myself a cup of coffee to distract me so I wouldn't go back for more. Think it might be better to just eliminate this from my diet than to have the torture of wanting more. Good luck with your decisions. You've made great choices in the past so I'm sure you will again. Continue to believe in yourself.

I had to stop buying almonds. I am now a bit more constipated without them. I have been following all the advice I got the first time around with this condition~hope it works! woe= way of eating. I asked the first time I saw it too!

Stef, as long as we make that decision every day, we WILL succeed. It's so great to see you coming back around to the Stef we all got to know and love. Keep at it!!!!

Buffy, I'm so proud of you exercising portion control!!! Way to go! Send some of your mojo over here, would you?

Bren, I may have to end up doing that exact thing - not buying any anymore. At least not until I'm at goal. It just feels so punitive to do that, and so that just makes me want them all the more. Some days, you just can't win - LOL!!

Notfast....it's what Lisa wrote, "way of eating." You'll also see WOE/WOL....way of eating/way of life. Rather than referring to Atkins as a "diet," it's a different way of saying that this is a different way of eating that is a life change.....it's not something we just "do" or "go on" for a short period of time, only to return to our old ways.

Lisa, I love almonds too, although there's more prep involved to have them the way I like them (spray pan, arrange almonds, spray butter on top, bake/broil, etc.) vs. peanuts that are all-too-ready to eat right out of the can. With so many people finding nuts so addictive, I'm surprised that nuts and seeds can be added as early as after 2 weeks of Induction. Maybe that should have been just seeds! LOL!!

Sandy, I have found over time, I cannot eat nuts... they are far too addictive to me. So, I thought one day...I'll try pumpkin seeds. I remembered them from when I was a kid and my mom would roast them in the oven. Well... YUCK!!!! That did it for me. Now, I just keep walking when I pass by the nuts and seeds in the store. No thanks! :)
