HerStrawberri's Journal, 14 September 2011

My brain hurts. I just studied for 2 hours for BIO. On top of 3 hours last night and 2 hours this morning. We have a test today and I'm hoping I do good. My brain just doesn't want to retian this info and I'm not sure why. maybe because it's so different from what I'm used too. I don't know. I hope I do good. Keep your fingers crossed for me. and your toes. =)

My food has been non existant. I'm not eating close to enough. The food in the caf totally sucks. The salad bar is gross. i'm going to have to take my own food. I'm not sure what to take as i won't have a fridge. I will figure it out. I'm honestly so worried about school and studying that I'm not even hungry. Or maybe it'e because I'm barely getting in 1000 a day. No judgements please. I know I need to get my intake back up. This constant struggle is killing me.

I'm LOVING the cool weather. yay for sweatshirts! Especially for sweatshirts that are BIG and FIT!!

Ok, off to Bio. Wish me luck guys! My teacher thinks we are all freaking chemistry majors and to be honest, I have never taken Chemistry so for me to know what in the hell a carbon skelaton is...is totally beyond me. I know NOW what it is though. =)

You will do just fine! You will be amazed at how much you have retained, read the exam first than answer, sometimes the answer to one question is a question later in the exam. Also, i have found some ways that help for studying for harder exams if you want them let me know!

I'm sure you will do great! You should take a coffee break and relax between studying!

I would love them Pixi! thank you so much! =) To my irritation, there was NOT a test today. I did all that studying for nothing. Well, i guess not for NOTHING. The first exam isn't until 2 weeks from now over chaters 1-6. yay. The peeps that sit around me are already talking about a study group. i was like ummm HELL YEAH!!! I would appreciate any tips you might have. Thank you so much again! Thank you Pretty! =)

Pixi, the almighty helper today! Lol You know, if you ever need any help understanding anything science related, I wouldn't mind helping you out. I love science, it was the only subject that comes easy to me.

Ok so for any kind of terminology that you need to remember try to see if you can find a part of the word that means something every day.. like Topography it is the study of Earth's surface shape and features. So Top... it means it is on top and the surface is on top so therefore topography has something to do with the surface... remembering that helped me remember what it was. I also did this other thing (it works for grocery lists too lol) if you need to remember parts of a skeleton or brain or anything picture a house... when you go in to that house the first thing you see is a coat rack and on that coat rack is a ______ fill in the blank with what you are trying to remember. So when you get really flustered in an exam walk through your house and see where you put things. I was skeptical but it got me through a major final 2 years ago lol I also read my notes out loud to myself, and record them as I do so and then play them back as you sleep... you will remember ridiculous amounts of stuff. Writing out things too, that helps if you need to do definitions or anything like that writing them out on recipe cards for flash cards works really good!

LOL I help because I suck at studying and it took me a very long time to learn how to do it properly.

Thanks Jps! i will def keep that in mind. =) Thank you so much!!

Oh and study in a quiet room that is not your bedroom.... preferably sitting in a chair so you don't fall asleep lol

I always write things out and read them out loud when I study. i will def try that play back thing and the house thing. that is really interesting. I was thinking of the flash card thing as well. Thank you soo much Pixi! I'm trying so hard but it felt like I wasn't retaining ANYTHING...which makes NO sense because i can pretty much recall EVERY book i have read....and i have prob read thousands of books. I love to learn and usually my brain is a sponge. Maybe it's becasue this is so new. LOL. Hopefully my brain gets in gear...LOL. THANK YOU PIXI!!!

That is one I have recently found out. I study better at my desk or in the school library. In the beginning i was doing homework on my bed. Not anymore. It really DOES make a difference. =) AND I need absolute quiet. I can't even have any tunes going in the backround.

I am the same way.. anything other than silence screws with my head... Sometimes I make songs up too lol I also remembered the planets because they are MVEMJNUP but now its MVEMJNU which is way less fun to say lol the play back thing really works because your brain files and puts things away while you sleep (I learned that in Psych) its funny the things I remember now that I thought I was losing in school. Sometimes you just need a trigger, and try not to cram. I would study the night before all of my exams (even finals) and that was it I would show up with nothing but my pencils, eraser and student card.. that way I don't over study.

I've read that about the sleeping thing as well. I'm def going to get one of those little recorders this weekend and start recording. i read them aloud anyway. i think I might be over studying...maybe that's why i feel like my brain isn't working. LOL. Ask me about any buffy episode and I'm all over it...but have me give you the def of covalent bond? not so much. LOL...(ummm....it's when 2 elements share the same electrons) ( i think). LOL

Correct about the covalent bond (if I'm remembering right from high school). I heard in one of my education classes (a few years ago) that it's good to break it up a bit when learning. Most people can't focus for that long, so during lectures and such you'll only remember the beginning and end. I think it was to change topics for a moment every 20 mins or so? idk... It's been too long so I've heard it...

No judgements, but you already said it yourself! p.s., your BRAIN needs food to study well! :-) You keep rockin' those books.
