Patchizz's Journal, 13 April 2024

Happy Saturday FS friends. On April 5th I posted asking for feedback on suggestions for a new scales as I had just an old regular type scale. I want to thank everyone for all your suggestions and ended up going with Etekcity basic digital model. It’s lovely and new but I’m SO disheartened in what I was afraid might happen,,,, and sure enough IT DID!! I weigh 6 lbs more on this new scale than I do on my old one that I’ve had for 18 yrs. I’m so puzzled and heartbroken at the same time. I weighed myself on both, 175 on my old one and 180.6 on the new one wearing the same clothing and runners. I then weigh my self holding my 5 lb weights close to my chest and weigh exactly 10 lbs more on BOTH scales. I want to cry but it’s a number,,, it doesn’t control how different my body feels. I guess worse case scenario is, I weighed a lot more than I thought I did! Uhhggg🤦🏼‍♀️

That happens sometimes when you change scales. The fact still remains that the weight you lost is still the same amount of pounds lost! You just have a different starting point now. Don’t be discouraged, keep up the good work and recognize the progress so far!!!

I fully understand your disheartened feeling. But the truth is you have lost 8 REAL pounds and that is something to encourage your ongoing journey.

I did exactly the same thing years ago. I even logged both weights for a time. Then I just took the plunge and started using the new one. Wishing you the best.

Hi, I know you already bought a scale, but here is my experience. I bought the Weight Watcher’s Bluetooth scale and found it to be accurate. Also it measures body mass and fat among other things. If you find you are not totally satisfied you might consider this scale. Congratulations on losing 8 lbs! Keep up the good work.

I used an old scale for many years and weighed myself every day when I was trying to lose weight. Of course, it was inaccurate, but I realized that it was still good enough to follow a trend in my weight loss journey. I lost 70 pounds while using the old analogue scale. I have a new digital scale now. It does not help me lose weight, but it's easier to read.

A BIG thank You to each of you for your kind words of encouragement. It means more than you know. Coming to terms with this new reality still has me spinning a bit. I know it’s stupid but in my mind I feel like I’m starting from square one again. Things like this kinda mess with your head and honestly, under different circumstances could have completely derailed my progress. What has stopped me from that is this wonderfully supportive FS group that just by fluke I stumbled across when googling calories for something. Each day on here I become more and more grateful for that day.You all helped get me through this reality check with Grace. I don’t have to do this alone anymore. 🫶 So tomorrow when I do my weekly weigh in, I will post my new and probably real ACCURATE weight. Sadly it will look like I gained but the only thing I gained was insight!! To New Beginnings!! ❤️🇨🇦

Patchizz...you can "start the program again" IF you wish to go that route. In the section called My Weight History, you can either 'restart my diet' or 'change my stating weight'. Just letting you know that the options are there, if you want/need that visual reboot. oooh...is your new scale "a pretty one" or at least as unobtrusive as a scale can be?? LoL

Hi Nadja. You know,,,I’m going to leave it and do as I said I would do tomorrow. Just put the accurate weight down. The end result is the same 🤷‍♀️ Thank you though for the suggestion. Oooh and yes, lol, it’s a lot prettier than the one I’ve been using. 😉 it would have been prettier if it was white but it is silver which is modern and it’s a really nice size. Nothing fancy though. And I’m kinda mad at it right now!!!! 😤😂

I'm glad that you at least find it prettier than the old one. LoL I think we ALL have that love/hate relationship with our scales!! LoL Here's to New Beginnings!! ♡

check the bottom of the new scales, incase it has pads on it for protection. mine was uneven and weighed heavier. once I removed the foot pads only a few ounces difference

Rthbrn, I ran upstairs and checked as soon as I saw your post hoping you were on to something but to my disappointment the scales are perfectly in tact with nothing forgotten to be taken off. Was a nice try though and thank you 😉😊

My suggestion for your new starting weight is to weigh naked. I don't even want extra ounces with clothes & heaven forbid shoes! And in reality if you've lost X number of lbs. you've still lost that same number 😊

SherryeB I used to weigh myself naked and right when I get up so I’ve been fasting throughout the night but I now just have a light night on which is not much weight wise. I am with you though on not adding any extras to the scales when weighing ourselves. Anything to keep those numbers as low as we can!!! 🫣
