So i have been toying with the idea that i should complete a water-only fast.
A side-bonus of a proper medically supervised water-only would be weight loss for sure...but that's not the primary reason to fast. In lieu of taking such a journey, I believe that burning my own body fat storage is most important: The way to do that is to actually exercise and to make certain that the calories i ingest are nutrient-dense and fat-free - as in no oil or simple sugars. Salt keeps the weight on so avoiding that too. Fat storage for women is quite sophisticated. We evolved with the ability to hold onto our fat no matter what - especially for the sake of pregnancy. As I've recently discovered, i am working against fat burning when i consume starches and fruits - foods with a calorie density over 100 calories per pound must remain off the menu. So as of 14 Nov I'm refraining from eating fruits and starches because do so immediately halts any fat burning my body is doing. My eating hours each day are between 12 and 6 pm.

I am also looking to burn calories using mild cold stress - hanging out in shorts and a tank-top and drinking liters of ice water. My body must heat the water up and that requires calorie burn. Contrast showering (warm 10 sec, cold 20sec 10 repetitions) is crazy-tough for me. It's it's utter torture every time i throw the water temp handle to C (HOLY SH*%%## THAT'S COLD!! AAAAGH!!!)...while at the same time it is kinda fun and exciting.

And since i began the aforementioned protocol i've seen the scale start to move once again. That feels pretty darn good.

Wish me luck these next 5 weeks! :)

Well whatever works! I can't give up my fruit. Water fasts will help you lose temporarily, but it usually comes back on (if you mean you are going to drink just water). You will also lose valuable muscle. A juice fast would be better because you will take in nutrients. Good luck!

that sounds a little extreme.. do you have a doctor monitoring your fast??

Wishing you well! Really it does not seem that you have that much to lose. A moderate approach (1 or 2 lbs per week) might allow you to keep the weight off that you loose. You may want to adopt a lifelong eating plan rather than eating differently ( or fasting) to lose weight. Just my take. All the best!

I thank you all for your support! To reiterate - no, i am not conducting a water-only fast...i wouldn't do that without supervision; and it wouldn't be about the weight loss if i did. So i'm eating only once or twice a day...that's not so far fetched. some people break their fast at 7am, skip lunch and eat dinner. Me, i'm eating between 12 and 6pm. To those that think this is a little extreme, let me remind you that i am a woman with fat stored in my body. I want to burn it off. My body burns glycogen preferentially, so in order to burn fat stores there has to be no glycogen added as fuel. I believe there is more to learn out there about the physiology of the human body burning fat storage versus glycogen. There are 2 interviews on YouTube to listen to out there: Chef AJ Teleclass with Dr. Michael Klaper MD, and Chef AJ Teleclass with Ray Cronise. Once i reach my goal i will be able to eat when i want and as much as i want!

oh okay, so you're doing intermittent fasting :) that's a whole different story :D I really thought you were only going to drink water.. sorry, silly me! I heard intermittent fasting is supposed to be really good for us, because it's more natural (aka cavemen didn't have access to food all day). Personally, I don't think I could do it. I'm always hungry :D

I get the hunger thing; after all we've trained ourselves to do it all of our lives. Now i must seriously consider - if i have fat on my body in excess quantity, then i've been eating too much. Not hard to do in the US. We all intermittently fast every time we go to bed at night and sleep for 8 hours. Let's say i'm continuing that fast by strategic meal timing. Now i'm truly on a high fat diet: my own body fat!! Studies have shown that the while we sleep the body burns a mixture of 50/50 fat stores and glycogen. Once we start eating again the body immediately ceases to burn calories from stored body fat. So what's the best way to coax the body into utilizing mainly stored fat for energy? To make it the most available fuel source of course. It takes 4 hours after my last meal each day to use up the calories i ingested...and so after 10 pm all the way until i eat the next day at noon, i've effectively kept my body burning fat stores for 14 hours. Add in 3 liters of ice water per day and some light exercise, and i'm burning some serious calories!! the scale tells me i am doing something right. I lost 8 pounds the first month and then my weight loss seemed to just freeze... for over 30 day i hovered at 170. Only until i made the meal frequency adjustment did the weight loss resume. It's definitely working for me so far!
