Just saw a beautiful steller's jay eating the bird seed I put on the deck rails! I've only seen them a couple times in the 12 years I've lived here. I remember them from the Tahoe area. I get scrub jays every time I put peanuts out.
Already messing up for my holiday goals! A neighbor did a Costco run yesterday. At the last minute I asked her to get one of their huge apple pies. I thought I would freeze it and later share at a family dinner (we are not meeting on Thursday). But I got up in the middle of the night and had a pretty big piece! THEN I had another piece for breakfast, just a normal size. Since then I've cut into slices and put in the garage freezer. Hopefully I won't have more for a week or so and then just a tiny piece. Oh well. Then I remembered the challenge I set up doesn't start until Thursday so I will try to refocus. I also got a rotisserie chicken. First time in over 3 years but same price! I don't like dark meat so last night I had a small amount of breast meat and gave Bobby and the cats (even Porch Kitty) some dark meat. Now Bobby and the cats follow me every time I go to the kitchen and the cats meow at me, they all know the chicken is in the refrigerator. I will forget about the pie I ate and just try to get back to normal. I went to the grocery store at 7:30 this morning because I can't deal with holiday crowds. They had some really good deals so I bought a bag of baby carrots for $1, also got potatoes and onions and will make either chicken stew or a chuck roast (also from Costco) in the next week or so.
The knee is much better. I can put my full weight on it without limping. But it still hurts, especially if I take Bobby for a walk. But I'm hopeful that will get better soon.
