Fritzy 22's Journal, 21 September 2023

I made a long journal entry yesterday then later deleted it because after reading it I sounded like a raving lunatic. Just ranting about things. I had the new Covid vaccine scheduled for Tuesday and woke up to a message from CVS that they had cancelled it. I really want the vaccine before my trip to Oregon in a couple weeks. I had an appointment at the hospital, which is why I scheduled the vaccine for the same day. If I had to drive for a half hour to the next town I wanted to get as much done as possible. Scheduled a flu vaccine instead. Got to town early and looked at mattresses - I want to buy 2 new beds when I move to Oregon and wanted an idea of the cost. I haven't bought a bed in about 15 years. Getting rid of the beds where I am now. Thought about buying at least one bed here since I have to hire a moving company for the stuff I am taking. The sales person reminded me there's no sales tax in Oregon so if the prices for the mattresses are about the same maybe waiting is better. Then I went to one of the biggest thrift stores in the area to ask about donating some furniture. They said they wouldn't take my futon because it doesn't have a mattress and no one will buy it. Also didn't want my entertainment center because it is pretty much obsolete with a space for a 25 inch big old TV that no one has anymore. So that upset me - can't give away some pretty nice furniture. The entertainment center was over $800 more than 30 years ago and is in excellent condition. Since I was so early and still had 45 minutes to kill before my first appointment I went to Jimboy's and got 2 tacos and a coke. It was unplanned and threw my eating for the day totally off. But the tacos were good and I should have skipped the coke, but enjoyed it

Today was better. Someone had sent me a message from Nextdoor, very interested in the futon. We have exchanged 2 or 3 messages but nothing today. This has happened several times with furniture I've listed on that site. People express interest than never arrange to come see the item. If she doesn't follow up in a day or two I will probably call Junk King or G.I. Junk to haul it away. They both say they will try to find homes for things thrown out where there is a need. Got a message on my phone that my mammogram from the other day is normal so I don't have to worry about that. I have a history of breast cancer with my mom and one of my sisters having had it.

Got in over 15,000 steps both today and yesterday. Really short walks with Bobby, probably no more than 2000-3000 steps but I've been doing so much around the house and yard and the steps add up. I set a goal of 1000 steps each hour until I reach 11,000 for the day. That keeps me moving for hours around the house doing all kinds of things I am good about putting off. I'm doing a challenge for 30 miles in a week. I've read 10,000 steps is about 5 miles, but I'm using 11k for 5 miles since I probably have shorter strides because of shorter legs than most people.

Weather is getting cooler, little by little. It's dark now at 6am when I try to feed the dog and cat and give Marco his insulin shot. Try to wait until it gets light out to let Bobby out. This morning around 5:30 Bobby wanted out, I turned on all the deck lights and went to open the door and saw the little skunk was on the deck looking for bird food that had dropped from the feeders so told Bobby he had to wait.

Didn't do too bad with my eating. Finally made the stir fry I kept putting off all week - I'll eat everything in the house before I get to the vegetables. Used asparagus, brussels sprouts, mushroom, and onions. Also had a 2nd serving of the parmesan chicken that is pre made at the grocery store and I just bake it. The package I bought has enough for 3 meals so I'll finish it tomorrow. Had blackberries again. They are huge! Twice as big as normal and really sweet.

Now I'm ready to go to sleep. Was up at 3am yesterday and 5am today. I think I am still tired from yesterday.

I hope you can find a home for that furniture. It's a shame you can repurpose it.

Thanks Morticia. I'm getting used to the fact that both the futon and the entertainment center just aren't used much any more. Futons are probably good as bed frames but really impossible as a sofa. And so much of the entertainment center is used for TV's that aren't used any more, since flat screen TVs came out and no one uses a stereo receiver and CD player, etc - everyone just streams music. And now homes don't have as many walls to put big pieces of furniture, it's all open space

I see posts often on FB or Instagram showing people refurbishing older styles of furniture to look more modern & up to date. Too bad you can't find someone like that to take your unwanted furniture.

Thanks Sherry - I have to try not to be in a big hurry to get rid of things. I am not going to put the house up for sale until February or March if the new house is going to be done on time. The futon has to go. But I am going to the design center for the new house in a couple of weeks. I'll ask about wall space. I am buying the house from floor plans although it is similar to one of the models. When you walk in the front door there is a narrow hallway then you enter into the kitchen and beyond that is the dining area and living room. No walls to separate them. So there are windows on one side and then doors to get to the other side of the house where the 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and laundry room are located. It appears there is wall space between the doors to the bedrooms. I will probably have to put a sofa in the middle of the living room and use the wall space for a TV. But maybe there is another wall where the windows are big enough for something. But I am taking a hutch which has glass doors and 2 big dressers for the bedrooms and some other little tables. A neighbor is fixing a huge dresser that has 7 drawers! On one side there are 2 heavy drawers that open to 3 drawers and an open space for an old TV. The doors are so heavy they eventually fell off. He is going to hang them back up for me and then I will take the huge thing for either the master bedroom or guest room. So I am trying to keep some things. It's tough when you can't even give things away for free. Someone I contacted suggested I call Habitat for Humanity because they have a bigger storage area.

meant there are 2 heavy doors, not drawers.

Thanks Rcguenth. I talked to the mortgage officer and found out how much more I could afford in case I need upgrades on the house. Getting excited about choosing colors, etc. Hope to do the inside in blues and greens

Thanks Bill! I try not to be grouchy. At least when it's in writing I can erase it.
