debrafrederick's Journal, 29 July 2023

So, I went back to my journals and found one from March 2015 where I did a one day experiment and I wanted to share it with the folks here who may or may not realize how much in actual pounds a human can intake in a day's time.

After a kick-a** start to my day with a good weigh-in, I pondered the idea of a post I made on a Buddy's journal. I recommended weighing EVERYTHING that goes into your body in a days time just to get an idea of how much your daily intake weighs in total so you can have a better understanding of why your weight fluctuates so much when you step on the scale daily. I have heard it mentioned before, but I have never actually done it..so I did it today. I put my water bottle on my digital food scale and tared it to 0 then I filled it up. Recorded the 26.6 ounces on a spread sheet and kept making my entries for everything that went inside my body today. What an eye opener. My total intake is 220 ounces, that translates to roughly 13.75 pounds! Depending on how frequently you eliminate wastes you could have many pounds on you at any given time that are completely temporary. I really did not realize that the amount would be so large so those of you who keep stepping on the scale every morning keep this in mind and don't let it discourage you, the scale does not define your success or failure, it is just a recording tool that used too frequently can derail your motivation and send you to the refrigerator. Think about it...

Details please: That doesn't even make sense because 453 grams equals 1 lb. Yesterday I ate roughly 150 grams of carbs, 100 grams protein, and 50 grams of fat for around 1700 calories. So unless I am wrong that is less than an actual lb of food. Fluids maybe 64 ounces or 4 lbs. Curious to know how you got to 14 lbs of food and fluids.

I drink 1 - 1 1/2 gallons of water a day.

interesting

Drinking that much water is an entirely new topic. How many ounces of actual food do you normally eat?

Good grief!

Yea. It is the trend over time that maters. There are always daily ups and downs. However, if the daily intake is roughly the same each day then the weight shouldn’t fluctuate drastically from day to day. But, I have days where I eat a lot more than others. So, I definitely see the daily fluctuations.

@honeebuns... What are you, the FS/food/water police? Why can't you just scroll by something you don't agree with? ...but just to appease you, probably arounded a weighted lb on the scale a day last week. 71% fat, 29% protein, & 0% carbs. Average 1200 calories a day.

And, you have about 26 feet of bowel in which to store the “shit” you eat. Basically, what you eliminate from your bowels today may be food waste that you ate 2-3 days ago depending on how much fiber, fruits/vegetables are in your diet.

ZWP I am not the police !! I thought it was fairly clear to Debra I couldn't see how someone could get to 14 lbs after looking at my own intake. I guess if you are drinking 16 lbs of water a day it's easy. 😁

Honeebuns, Debra was including water and other drinks as well not just solid foods. 16oz of water weighs 1lb. Fun fact, adult intestines can hold anywhere from 5 to 25 pounds of poop depending on many factors. That is why many people who go on long fasting periods for a few days will see significant weight drops and then after they start eating normally again they see a quick jump up in weight because they are storing more poop again.

Recomp I understood it was both fluids and food.

Bottom line, don't sweat the day-to-day fluctuations, look at the trend over time. Thanks Debra, your comments should be reassuring to people who stress over daily ups and downs.

okay guys I weighed everything that I put in my mouth food water coffee supplements that I might have taken back then all of it for one day logged it the weight the total weight for my intake for that day was 13.75 pounds if you urinate frequently if you have regular BMS and yes if you intake about the same amount everyday then you're not going to see a massive amount of fluctuations if for some reason you start retaining fluids or you fail to have a bowel movement or you don't manage to get all of your fluids in that you normally drink in one day you're going to notice a good size difference on the scale all I'm doing is making folks aware of how large the intake can be in a day and to be aware of it when they step on the scale it's no do right do wrong type of thing it just is

Thanks Debra! This does help put things into perspective.

and I do on a daily basis drink about a gallon to a gallon and a half of water and every morning without fail I have 24 oz of coffee

@honeebuns that is another thing I noticed you were saying that you had a hundred grams of protein the grams of protein in an item don't include the full weight of the item I just did a calculation for me to get 126 G of protein I would have to eat almost 24 oz of chuck steak so the grams of the macros that you're in taking have nothing to do with how much the food actually weighs in your digestive system
