Pterath's Journal, 27 June 2015

Did not have time to post this morning. Busy days and spending time with Mom yesterday and today. We lazed about part of the day looking at things I had planned for the remodel. Colors fabrics yada yada yada. Then Had lunch at the place 2 doors down, Surrey Seafood, and it was yummy. Scallops 2 days in a row, so good! In the afternoon and while we had light, mom helped me paint in the kitchen to get some primer up. I DID NOT FORCE HER - she insisted on helping. And it was nice to have help.

Today was alot of driving and lawn sales and flea markets - no major finds to speak of. Then we went to the Heights of the Land for a breathtaking view on a perfect day. On the way we say 2 moose calves and mama. I only got pictures of one calf as we were driving and mama and the other calf had already disappeared into the darkness of the forest. They have a knack for this. This siting was also rare as it was near midday and the best time to see them is dawn and dusk. It was also the first time to see them in the wild since moving to Maine 4 years ago. Topped my day off, Mom was pretty tickled over it too! It was pretty awesome! We saw fields and fields of lupine.

We spent several hours at Rangley Lake and the kids swam while we shivered. The breeze was blowing in tomorrows expected rain and temps. 55 F tomorrow. It dropped 5 degrees in a very short time. I could not believe the kids stayed in the water as long as they did. An hour before we were sweating bad enough that my sunscreen was burning my eyes.

Afterwards, Mom took us out to dinner for PIZZA, she was being grandma so kids got their choice. I succumbed to hunger and the daemons of carbage. We had a thin crust at a mom and pop's place in Rangely so the best I could do was say guesstimate the pizza etc on my tracking best as I could find. Yes, they had salad but It was vacation right? My excuse and I am sticking with it. I have not made very many at all for 2 months. Even hubby succumbed. I will get back on track tomorrow and pray I do not suffer Montezuma's Revenge for imbibing.

I grew up in New England - very familiar. And, now I live in Minneapolis - and northern Minnesota looks exactly like Maine!

Sounds like a great day, how awesome to see a moose! The only time I have ever seen a live one was in Alaska and it was far away.
