I managed to bring home a sore throat from our hospital trip, isn't that always the way?
I also have a ton of work to catch up on so not looking good for a good run anytime soon though I am planning on a quick couple miles.

I am so happy to be back to planning my meals and sleeping in my own bed. Poop patrol is going surprisingly drama free. Miralax is the bomb!(pun intended?)

I am trying to avoid cough drops because of Atkins and obviously honey is out. Anyone have any ideas for a sore throat?

Do you sing NM? We were talking about that the other day, I love music. I only listen though I have no talent at all.

Warm salt water has helped me.

I don't know where you live, but Walmart carries sugar free cough drops and sugar free 'cold-eeze'. Both Ricola and Halls brands carry SF. Good luck. The Cold-eeze seemed to really help. Godd luck.

Slippery elm (ulmus rubra) is actually an anti-inflammatory. It would work in case you have any type of inflammation and only the inner part of the bark is used. But it only acts on the inflammation part (the effect), not on the cause of the inflammation (like white clover blossom or camomile would do). Otherwise it's mostly used for digestive problems. Willow bark is an anti-fever and analgesic remedy (that is the natural aspirin) that is used in colds. Nicholaix, if that is home-made, I'd only be worried about the onions because they have sugars, but I honestly don't think too much of those sugars have diluted into the pickle juice. So yay for home-made pickle juice!

I have always plenty of white clover blossoms in my house - I don't use any kind of pesticides in my garden and spend several days in spring gathering the blossoms. But if you do not grow your own herbs, a very good online source is mountainroseherbs.com. They're very affordable and their product is of very good quality.

I'm fighting a sore throat, head cold which showed up yesterday. confirmed after having to take diphenhydramine to sleep. so, I will be takeing my cold and flu cure; nutritional yeast, lemon juice, Ginger juice, cayenne pepper in water; (don't have any grapefruit juice or pineapple juice which I usually use.) and also clove of garlic in mouth for over 15 min, then eating garlic on whole wheat sprouted bread & ghee. Mild symptoms of eye infection too, so I'll be using fresh aloe vera juice IN my eye for that. Be Well.. :)

PS: when I eat the nutritional yeast, I still exercise, and actually do better. Since Nutritional yeast is the richest souce of B vitamins and is the ammunition for our immune system. Just now I did five more pullups than last workout, and 10 more wide deep pushups than last time. and I'm supposed to be sick. I never get more than 5% to 10% sick when taking Nutrional yeast during. And most often it's gone in 2 to 3 days (with all the extra energy from the 'cure'.) Hard to believe? It's been working for me for 40 years. BTW we NEED to get sick once in a while (I was overdue) so our body can build up the antibodies fighting the disease.

Yes. I sing. I love to sing. When I'm really into it, the breath control can almost become meditative. In fact, I believe it's one of the largest contributors to the fact that most singers are nervous when then get on stage and loosen up as they progress. I've always found that vomiting before I get on stage helps too. It's actually fairly common. Rocker has been after me to post an audio of my rendition of Wayfaring Stranger. It's an old folk/religious standard that I converted to more jazz oriented chord voicings.

Maybe if I got enough requests I'd post a link to the song. (Blatant attention hound.)

Oh I would love to hear that, you really should. My music lately has gotten repetitious with Clannad, enya, Michelle McLaughlin and a bit of Abenaki folk if you would call it that.

I'll see what I can do. I'll have to set up a streaming account somewhere. Maybe soundcloud.

My Mom swears by gargling with warm salt water. My husband loves Cold-eez. I personally prefer to crawl into bed and sleep until I am feeling good again. Unfortunately. life rarely provides that opportunity... I hope you are feeling better soon. :)

Hope you fight this bug and are feeling better soon. Mint teas are also good at easing sore throats. Honestly I have not bought a cough drop in years, they make e sick to my stomach. Natural food stores have horehound candy that is helpful, not on atkins though. I also use nutritional yeast, need to get more tomorrow, I'm out.

Well that sucks. Hope you feel better soon. I know it doesn't work for everyone but peppermint tea usually does the trick for me. If it is really bad I go for hot lemon and honey, but honey is out.

I wouldn't do mint tea while on Atkins. Mint is a natural remedy for loose stools, and if you drink too much of it you can get constipated. Atkins already gives you a tendency to constipation (hence the recommendation to eat your vegetables for the fiber).

A gargle of equal parts Braggs cider vinegar + warm water and a bit honey - soothing agent. Gargle/swish at least twice daily. Drink lots of water and swish as you do (so no acid is left on your tooth enamel). Does the trick for me in a day or so. You're not eating the honey but not sure if it fits in Atkins for you.

You could use sugar free drops, or natural I use warm water about 1/4 cup, tsp honey. splash of lemon juice, and a good kick of cayenne pepper and drink it down. Actually it doesn't taste to bad.
