I managed to bring home a sore throat from our hospital trip, isn't that always the way?
I also have a ton of work to catch up on so not looking good for a good run anytime soon though I am planning on a quick couple miles.

I am so happy to be back to planning my meals and sleeping in my own bed. Poop patrol is going surprisingly drama free. Miralax is the bomb!(pun intended?)

I am trying to avoid cough drops because of Atkins and obviously honey is out. Anyone have any ideas for a sore throat?

Glad about the young master, sorry about you. It's not recommended that you do any exercise if you're running a temp.

Whenever I start to get a sore throat or sinus stuff I take a couple Vit C pills each day, it usually takes care of it before it can get worse. Good luck, hope you feel better and glad your son is on the mend too.

You might try drinking hot/warm water with lemon juice. It's really soothing.

LOL Nic, on the poop patrol. I agree with what terralyn suggested - that's what I would try! In fact, I don't have a sore throat but I am going to try some now! Have a good day!

Absolutely. Make an 8 oz glass of salt water (do not make it saltier than tears) and gargle with it twice every 15 minutes until you finish the glass. Depending on the amount of bacteria in your throat, it should take anywhere from 1 to 2 hours for your throat to not be sore anymore. Do not stop gargling though until you finish the glass. BUT, if your throat is sore from too much liquid ingested (usually Atkins can give a sore throat because if you drink over 2l of liquid a day, it strips the mucous lining of the esophagus faster than it can rebuild itself) do not do that. It is normal, and adding a few drops of lemon juice or eating a few olives should temporarily alleviate it.

hmm hot water and lemon sounds good, like lemon tea, and we have lots of pickle juice. Although pickle juice is just vinegar and spices lol. Thanks for all the great ideas!

It's definitely a bug I have the lymph nodes to prove it. But I didn't know that and its good to know, dayberndt. I shall try the gargle also, I seem to remember my Da making us all do that for sore throats. Mama had some kind of bark she used to boil and make me drink but I can't remember what it was.

ah careful with the pickle juice. Unless it's home made and you trust there's no sugar in it, any store bought one will have some type of sugar, and if not, some type of preservatives. Best thing in terms of herbal medicine would be "white clover blossom (the only natural remedy that actually kills the cold virus), camomile (natural antibiotic), linden blossom (expectorant) and yellow onion peel tea (also strong expectorant). The last two though would only be useful if the cold starts affecting your respiratory system.

I make and put up all our pickles. We have 17 jars right now, lol. Although half of them are hot pickles this years per the boys request. We have way more left than usual so I am guessing they sounded better than they are. Garlic, hot peppers, onions, and cukes. It was handy to have them though when I needed salt.

Maybe I am thinking of slippery elm bark?

Sometimes we need doctors desperately and we have to go, but hospitals are a hotbed of illness. What else could they be? The only reason to be there is if you're sick. For you, it would be easy to pick something up when you consider the stress you must have been feeling at the time. It lowers all resistance. I read a book, years and years ago by a buy who had been the head of one of the US states medical boards. He was a physician and a good one. He'd won many awards for his service. The book was called "Confessions of a Medical Heretic". The thing that still stands out to me was his philosophy regarding hospital visits unless it was for extreme emergencies because of what you could pick up there. "The hospital is no place for a sick person."

Slippery elm... sworn by by most professional singers. Maybe not Bob Dylan. Very soothing to the throat.
