TIEDIEAMY's Journal, 06 February 2015

Well it's that time of the year again time to kick this weight in the butt. I am going to compete in the Biggest Winner at work. It is only for about 8 weeks. My goal is to lose 40 lbs by the end of it that's about 5 lbs a week. I think I can do it I just have to stick to it and not give up. My diet is going to be low carb, and the exercise is going to be a combination of two programs kickboxing and lots of ab workouts. I am doing one regular workout and then a ab workout 6 days a week. Reason being for soo much ab workout I have a huge midsection that has just got to go so I figured if I did a ab workout everyday the sooner I might get it down. I am going to do Combat/Tapout XT programs a hybrid for 8 weeks for the competition. Then maybe do 4 to 8 weeks of just Combat and the same with TapOut XT. After I loose around 80-100 lbs then I want to build some muscle and I want to do Body Beast. The more I read the more I am interested in Bodybuiding but I am still way too overweight to think about that besides I wouldn't even know where to begin, but I am very interested. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

If you're interested in strength training, you can find excellent ideas on bodybuilding.com. or Live Strong. Don't forget to do cardio. Walk.

Good for you! I too just joined a Biggest loser competition at work. It sounds like you have a great plan, although I would caution you about the extensive ab workouts. Sadly, spot reducing doesn't work. You will build up your abdominal muscles, but ab workouts won't really help to shed the fat around your middle (believe me I've tried) it will just build the muscles underneath. I would go for more cardio if your goal is shedding weight and fat. Just a thought, good luck!

just want to say congrats on your journey! As you lose weight you need to build the muscle as well, muscle burns fat, don't wait to lose 80-100 to start weight training. If you lose the weight without building the muscle at the same time then you just end up with flabby skin. Michaelsgirl515 is right you can't just spot lose. Once you kick in the workouts as well as the diets you will be amazed at how much faster you lose.
