That sure shows that pattern - Beautiful - I am not afraid such creatures and find them fantastic but I have no desire to handle one! Best left alone! Very interesting pattern - it does not appear to be diamonds as much as joined rings - Cool. I think that this particular snake - actually wanted his photo taken!!! Maybe just so we would state that he was beautiful. "Apple ? Anyone else? Non!"

I can guarantee tHis. Picture was actually taken from a bit more distance. The guy who took it is way to cautious to get this close

Do you know what type of snake it is? We have been doing a lot of hiking, I'm so worried we will run into snakes.

K carrot top— it is a rattle snake. This time of year hike early when it is cool, hike in areas like the one pictured that are wide and free of brush. If you can’t safely get sound the, turn around and go back. Don’t be afraid, just pay attention. Not the time to be taking pictures if you are alone. Situational awareness is crucial. In May the babies will be out and about— they are most dangerous

Adult rattlers can selectively envenomate, babies/ juveniles can’t. IF the site (leg, foot, hand, arm) is not 4 times normal size in 5 minutes you have probably not been envenomated. Get help immediately. DO NOT apply a tourniquet, do not lance and try to suck the venom out. You could die. Personally, I choose to avoid certain trails during high risk seasons/ time of day. It’s not worth the risk.
