I tried the high protein/low carb diet, cutting out diet sodas, fast food, junk food, etc. and I gained 20 pounds. Of course I quit smoking too..but the cravings were to great and I was left feeling deprived all the time. I am tweaking the diet. I am having oatmeal in the a.m., and a snack or small meal every 3-4 hours (as dictated by the time of day). I get up at 4 so I would eat breakfast at 5 and then a snack at 8 and lunch at noon..etc. I am going to have a soda when I want one...just not all day long. I will still eat high protein and salads, but will incorporate some carbs like granola, nuts and rice cakes as snacks. Still eating lots of fruits and veggies. We will see how THIS works...

Congrats on quitting smoking. Non smokers would breeze right over that statement, but that is a BIG deal! Keep on tweaking on the food plan and don't give up. You'll find a plan that'll work for you. Good luck.

Awesome! I'm doing pretty much the same thing. I'm eating every 2-3 hours and trying to get a lot of protein in so I'm not feeling hungry all the time. I'm also trying to replace pieces of the meals I like so I dont have to go without that meal. For instance, tonight we're having tacos (I love tacos), but we're going to replace the shells (most of the carbs) with romaine lettuce. You can do it, it just takes a while for the body to adapt to a healthier lifestyle because it's so used to an unhealthy one.

I actually quit the cigarettes 4 months ago using the nicorette gum. But I became addicted to the gum. I was still dosing my body with nicotine and now I chewed like a cow..very unlady like...But I was eating salads twice a day, doing protien shakes for breakfast, depriving myself of everything...then feeling frustrated I would then binge once a week or two...very counter productive. I am hoping this way will work better and I won't feel the need to binge because I won't be depriving myself of any particular food group.

I still will NOT got to fast food restaurants though. Its been over a year...I will NOT eat at Mcdonalds, Burger King, Wendys, Subway...any of them. The thought and even the smell of those places make me ill.
