Gnewfry's Journal, 14 June 2014

yesterday was so hard. i think i shouldn't have switched my breakfast from raisin bran to an english muffin and 2 hb eggs. it just didn't fill me up enough. i ended up eating a second english muffin. then i was craving chocolate so i had some grapes. that didn't help. i went to the grocery store and bought some toblerone. i thought i was doing ok because i only ate one little serving and not the whole thing.

then we went out to dinner. i had two drinks and a patty melt. no fries. that was way over my calorie limit. i thought i'd only eat half the patty melt, but i was still hungry and i thought it wouldn't be good the second day. then we went to a pub and i had another beer.

the worst thing though was that when i got home i had a second beer. i never should have done that. i was way too full. i regret that more than the patty melt.

i weighed myself last night and i was up a lot. then this morning i was still up some. my official weigh in is tomorrow and i'm not recording until then. but i don't see how i could lose weight this week. when i weighed earlier in the week, i was still down. i'm mad at myself.

Don't be too hard on yourself. You messed up, but you've learned what to do differently next time. Yesterday is over; it's what you do going forward that is important.

English muffins contain white flour, which plays havoc on your blood sugar, which in turn will give you cravings... Live and learn what works for you! :)

Maybe do some exercise today to compensate for yesterday's indulgences. Good luck with your weigh in tomorrow!

I agree with maunikmtl. Flour will just make you feel like you need something else which can lead to overeating. Plus it is a huge calorie bomb with no nutritional value. You got more nutrition from the beer lol

Its good to learn our triggers. Hang in there!

See you are learning and hat takes us making mistakes. I can't ear wheat bread as it makes me feel like I am coming down with the flu plus supper tired. Keep up journaling and marking down food. Good luck..

It's a process Gnewfry! Every day I learn a little something about a way to do something better. Sometimes it's reading something here, sometimes it's just paying close attention to what I'm doing. Something that really helps me is to plan. I map out what I plan to eat for the day. I allow for plenty of snacks ;-) I tweak it during the day but try to allow for healthy snacks and a good dinner. My snacks tend to be veggies, greek yogurt, lowfat cheese sticks and sometimes leftover chicken. Crackers/bread/cookies mid-day for me lead down a bad road. I don't really know that they set off cravings for me but I don't find them to be really filling.

First learn stand, then learn fly. Nature rule, Daniel-san, not mine.

We all have days like that. I always start the day with a good breakfast - otherwise I fall down a lot. I like oatmeal with greek yogurt and some fruit. I use 0% greek yogurt, 1/2 plain and 1/2 flavoured to cut the sugar content. That has enough protein to keep me going for hours and it generally comes out to around 300 cals. Good luck!

@Jo-B: Just a suggestion. You can substitute oatmeal for Pot barley in that breakfast. Barley has a multitude of great benefits. I use to do that cut, cut the sweetened yogourt with plain. I find the sweet yogurt is much too sweet. But I found that once I started with yogurt, I couldn't stop eating it. It's a trigger that keeps me going. Like ice cream or chips. So, now I don't keep it.

Thanks for the pot barley suggestion Maunikmtl! I've never heard of it but will go hunting and find it - it's nice to have a few breakfast options as I get bored with the same thing after a while. Good for you for realizing your yogurt trigger. It can be hard to recognize a trigger, especially when it's a healthy food - but I guess everything is healthy at the appropriate moderation - too much of anything is not so good ;)
