Booful's Journal, 01 February 2014

I'm feeling a bit confused and frustrated right now. About a month ago I was sent to see an Orthopedic for shoulder pain and issues with certain positions of the arm/shoulder. The doctor gave me cortisone shots and told me not to lift anything or pull down anything from above my head that weighs more than a water bottle. I am scheduled to go back for a follow-up at the end of February. I have done my best to listen to the doctor however I am finding it increasing hard to find exercises that will work my triceps, shoulder and back that do not require above or over the head pushing/pulling. I end up spending most of my time working my lower body and that can lead to over-training. My companion was telling me last night he is concerned that I will reach burnout mode....I am. I am burned out on feeling so limited at a time when I am fully motivated and willing to push and go through the burn and recovery. I find myself feeling like I am not giving my best and end up restless and feeling depressed when I leave the gym. I am walking the line between doing what is healthy for my shoulder and trying to do what is good for my overall health. *sigh* I thought I might feel better after venting....thanks for reading.

I've had shoulder problems, too, and suffer from a permanently painful and damaged back. I know how you feel. It is very frustrating. But I learned the hard way that if you do too much, you end up worse than when you started. I actually damaged my back further by exercising when I shouldn't have - and in the end could do less than ever! So do moderate the exercise. Give the shoulder time to heal. And remember that all exercise, even a little bit (and it sounds like you do a lot) improves your overall health. Good luck.

There isn't a whole lot you can do right now. You might try cross training and focusing more on cardio (swimming, eliptical, etc.) You need to take care of that shoulder and get healthy. I was laid up for months because of heal problems. It made me nuts. But its much better now. Do the best you can and vent away.
