got the munchies's Journal, 23 November 2013

I am in my 40's and this time losing I notice the skin isnt "bouncing back" like it has in the past. Is this age-related? I am losing at a steady pace and exercise with weights along with some cardio but I never had an issue with this! Most concerned about my triceps and lack of definition .. Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

As we age, our skin loses elasticity. But it can take up to a year or so after we lose weight for the skin to go back. It also depends on how much you have to lose. If you have a huge amount, you will probably have excess skin. If you have a smaller amount, and do strength training and cardio, you may be fine. It's difficult to say because everyone is different. Losing slowly is a good though. You will just have to see as you go along.

Yeh. And I've read that protein intake has a lot to do with it too... but, there's just nothing we can do about getting older. I SOOO wish there was. Hah! :D Anyway, I've also read that vitamins C, E and A are good for skin elasticity. And Lutein. But there really isn't much scientific support for that. It may be worth a try, as they are good vitamins to have. But, it might not prove all that useful for skin either. Be careful with vitamins... some of them (I think vitamin A may be one) you can only have so much of before they become toxic. Check how much you get from a multivitamin and other sources before you add extra!
