aaarr what to do when you eat out with new friends ?!

Went out last night and friend kindly ordered starters for us both..which included the evil bread. I had a small piece of the bread but I'm gutted as I didn't really even want it ..or enjoy it. I should've just said I trying to eat healthily but I get so coy about my 'fat secret' lol

Plan to go for a run today to make myself feel better.

I know what you mean, Tilly; I am the same way. My close friends know but I just don't "put it out there" for every body to know my biz re. my "fat secret". LOL You hang in there, hon. One thing that helps me - I learned this from my doctor - did you know that it takes 4 days for the carbs you eat (today) to leave your body? Four days!! That is how long it will take for you to get back into ketosis. I often keep this in mind when I am tempted for "just a little bit" of what I know I shouldn't have. I ask myself, "Is this worth FOUR days of stalling? I think not." It REALLY helps me say "NO" to the temptation. Hope that helps, hon. You have a super day - I know you will burn, baby burn when you are running.

Just a few thoughts here. I'm with you in that I really don't want to get into a whole discussion of my weight loss/weight loss plan with most people, but especially not with people I don't know very well. "No, none for me, thanks," or "None for me, doctor's orders," (Dr. Atkins, of course!) might work in those instances where baskets of non-Atkins-friendly food get passed around. I tend to think that if I have ANYTHING unusual or opt out of the bread basket, or whatever, that it will immediately bring up, "Are you on a diet?" Fact is, it probably won't. I think back to several dinners and luncheons I've been on (prior to Atkins) and various people ordered salads instead of pizza, asked for dressing on the side, asked for no potatoes but double veggies, asked for things steamed or broiled rather than fried, asked for no pasta, etc. and in NOT ONE instance did anyone ask if that person was on some kind of diet. They just assumed those were that person's food preferences, just like someone prefers scallops rather than shrimp.

Thanks all - funny isn't it. When I'm eating out when not on a diet, I feel conscious people will watch me nibbling on that extra bread stick...and when on a diet I worry people are clocking me Not eat the breadstick. Crazy talk really!! A little too much worrying going on there. 4 days of dieting for one little bread slice if DEFINATELY not worth it. I will have to say this over and over in my head when faced with tempations! Thanks for the info Evie. It's so true that no one is actually going to confront me for not eating a breadstick. Would be a little odd if they did. lol. Going to have to be a little stricter with myself and just say 'No'.
