3.5 miles walked; total for the 50-in-30 Challenge is now 16.5 miles

The end of one month and the beginning of another gives me the chance to review monthly totals on weight loss, fat/protein/carb percentages, calories, exercise, etc. I've lost 43 pounds on Atkins in just over 6 months (6 months and 4 days) so it's pretty interesting looking at trends. My biggest surprise was exercise, as this was the first month I really looked at it closely.

When I log exercise, I only log what I do for exercise, not the usual, everyday stuff like standing, shopping, driving, desk work, etc. Those activities stay pretty constant; it's the specific exercise amounts or one-time physical events that I'm logging.

Over the last 4 months (since being on FS), I've actually increased my distance walking and increased my speed. I thought I was adding a fairly good amount of exercise. But because I've lost weight, my body doesn't need to burn so much energy with each activity, so my actual energy expenditure (calories burned) has dropped 166 calories per day - on average. And that's just looking at the exercise amounts! Even with doing MORE exercise!!

That's probably why I'm seeing a slight slowing in the speed of weight loss (which was never super fast, anyway). After losing 7 pounds in both May and June, I lost 6 pounds in both July and August, and dropped 5 in September. Reducing my average daily calories has not made up for the reduction in calories burned in exercise (even with doing MORE exercise).

What this tells me is that I need to add even more exercise (or reduce calories further, which would be counterproductive at this point); probably adding 100-200 extra net calories burned each day, to begin with. But that will undoubtedly need to increase in the upcoming months as I continue to lose.

I really do not enjoy exercise. I don't get that great feeling, that "high," that calm that comes from endorphins, or whatever. What a pain.....but I guess I gotta do what I gotta do.

I think you are doing brill as you say you are lighter and harder to lose weight but you are losing so healthy, anymore than that at this stage and you'll be lose muscle and you are gaining stronger muscles so you'll weigh heavier but in a healthy way (hope you understand what I mean hard for me to put in words). Thats nearly 3 stone, half stone a monht and you are living a normal life. Good luck on exercise.

Thanks Carmel. It is true that I'm living a normal life, as far as eating goes. I could go on like this seemingly forever, which is what I wanted. I just really don't look forward to adding more exercise, esp. when I consider what I may have to do months from now as I try to get closer to goal. I expected to have to reduce calories (just a bit) and increase exercise (maybe), just not so soon, at this not-quite-halfway point already. It's a bit of a bummer. I truly did not think this was going to be this hard. I may just have to have a self-pitying cry later on tonight. It probably doesn't help that I think I'm battling a minor flu bug too. Ah well, things will look better in the AM.

Thanks for the support everyone. Carmel, I'm afraid just the thought of the aroma of tea isn't for me right now. I'm just doing everything liquid. I'm going to try to eat a boiled egg, as I do need some nourishment beyond the Atkins shake and chicken broth. Took my temp at 9:30 and am running slightly over 100. If this iS the flu, I've got to hope my flu shot a couple weeks ago will help combat it. I just can't understand how I could have gotten sick, as I'm almost fanatical about using hand sanitizer or wipes whenever I leave stores, church, or anywhere lots of people have been. Well, good night all.

Thanks for the good wishes. I'll let you know about my graph...I only log full pounds, no tenths. I weigh in every Monday. If I lose mid-week, it gets logged; if I go up mid-week, I ignore it. BUT...if I'm not back down or even lower by Monday, my weight gets recorded no matter what it is. It's a way to keep me motivated and also to not get obsessed with every tenth of a pound that could be just normal everyday variation. I recorded my sickness-related lost pound today, but I suspect I'll be recording a higher 192 or 193 on Monday. It's good while it lasts.

I got a fair amount of sleep last night, so that's good. My fever went up over 100 a bit and then broke about 4AM. This morning, I'm just feeling washed out, light-headed, and this lower abdominal cramping just about takes my breath away when it comes on. Luckily, it seems to be less often as time goes on. DH has done some web-surfing and we now think it may be food poisoning. The timing and symptoms all seem to fit pretty well. I did eat some raw hamburger prior to cooking it Wednesday evening (yeah, I know, I know). The first symptoms came on Thursday afternoon. The good news is that I should get over this in the next couple of days without any medical intervention. If I do get worse, I'll call the Dr. on Monday. I'm going the couch potato route today and I'll be pushing fluids as much as possible. Carmel....I might actually be able to stomach some tea today.
