Why is it that I can weight so fast? Is it mostly water weight?
I had a conference last week and, while I didn't eat like crazy, I certainly didn't follow my standard plan. I worked out extra to try and offset any gains... twice a day. I can only assume that the five pounds I show on the scale this morning is primarily due to water gained. That amount of weight in a week would account for about 3500 extra per day. I really can't believe that's the case.
There's that quick water loss during the initial phases of any diet so I can only hope that this will disappear quickly. I'll weigh myself again on Wednesday and all shall be revealed. Here's hoping!

it's only water. i gained muscle. those are both two slippery slopes. if you're counting lbs, you're counting lbs... if you're ignoring the scale or making justifications, well... then does weighing yourself really serve a purpose?

I certainly don't ignore the scale since I use it to remind myself that I need to focus/re-focus. I also never believe when people say that because they're working out they've gained muscle so justify the scale. It bothers me since most people are not working out hard enough to see significant gains in muscle. It takes a huge effort to increase muscle mass along with eating very carefully. Most are not doing that. All this said, I know it's mostly water weight since the excess salt and sugar holds on to water. I've basically already reset my weight from the week prior so I'm not too worried. I mostly posted to start a discussion, so thanks for joining in. ;)

Oh, also, I liked your last question. I see many on here are very focused on half-pound measurements. That drives me nuts. I think it's better to try and live healthy in general that obsess over every day. Thanks!

With all due respect, some of us see that half pound as one step closer to our goal.....to all the HALF POUND posters, keep losing those half pounds, two will make a whole.

Sorry, I didn't mean any offense. It just doesn't work for me and I find myself going crazy if I weigh myself too often. I find obsessing just stresses me out. :) Good luck with your journey!
