I'd been subscribing to Food Babe's blog. She had a study about protein shakes and had some suggestions to ones that were in her study "better." One of which was Sunwarrior Classic or Raw Vegan - comes in Chocolate, Plain or Vanilla. I went online to check out their products and found another interesting low glycemic product called Activated Barley. Seemed interesting. Found a local health food store - sold their products, and made my way there after work. Now, I've visited this store before and I always feel like I'm not a member of their "club" - I don't feel comfortable there because I'm not familar, nor do I look like most of the other customers there. My lifestyle is different if you judge the outside cover alone. Anyway, I must have looked out of place, as a store clerk strolled up the moment I was trying to determine between Raw Vegan Chocolate vs Classic Vanilla. She suggested Chocolate, so I went with that option. Also bought Steel Cut Oats (heard of it, but had not tried it) and local honey (always a good thing, and a staple in our household) among some other small items which tallied up to a considerably larger tab than I really wanted, but it's all in the name of health, right?

My husband went out and purchased almond milk - as it indicated you could mix with water, almond or rice milk. Our local grocery probably had no clue of rice milk, so he went with the one brand he could find. He made breakfast this morning with the steel cut oats (and man they were some kind of good - I added walnut halves, cinnamon, and a tablespoon of honey to them. And prior to heading for the gym, he wanted to try the activated barley - he tried it and it was too chalky and bland tasting, so he put some of the raw vegan Chocolate protein with it. He said it was better, but having extra water around wouldn't be a bad thing.

So it's a late lunch time for me (thank you steel cut oats!) and I'm ready to check the letters off the keyboard. I decided I would keep with my one protein shake per day - and mixed into 1 cup unsweetened almond milk (silk) 1 TBSP of the activated barley and 1 scoop of the raw vegan Chocolate + 2 TBSP of PB2 (powdered peanut butter by Bell Plantation - it is fabulous!!!), and blended it together in our Magic Bullet. Took one sip. Oh MY! This stuff is good!!! Chalky aftertaste, but good! So I thought, let's take it one step higher...and blended up a banana in it. Let's just say it was one step closer to Heaven. So I'm sharing for you to try it if you are familar with Sunwarrior products. Don't go in thinking they are going to be inexpensive, cause they are not. But like with the barley, there is 50 servings in one bag, and I think about 47 in the other (I'm not in the kitchen close to it, so don't hold me to it.)

We're cooking for my family tonight. Pork Sliced Spare Ribs in orange marmalade marinade and chicken tenders in italian dressing marinade - both will be baked. Invited family over - brother is probably concerned, in my early years I tried all kinds of tofu dishes for them...so he's a little shy about my cooking. But I've learned you can use real foods - like butter - if it's not olive oil, I'd rather cook with butter. You just can't be totally stupid about it.

*Oh, yes had 3 more crazy dreams. Won't subject you to them, but did write them down elsewhere. Thanks for your advice...it's good to have friends - even online ones.
