Day 204- RR- Ran another 5K over the weekend and blew my time out of the water compared to the last one. Chip time 27:49, shaved 1:10 off my time. The course was much flatter. All the studs were there and I came in next to last in my age group, lol. Overall I finished 81st out of 185 runners. I also came across one of my high school classmates during the run. She was just chugging along. She has been running a lot longer than I have and did well. She was one of those folks that I really never talked to when we went to school together and I always felt she thought I was beneath her. (Let me add here, I went to a boarding school and I was boarder and she was a day student, 2 different crowds from the get-go. In other words, I had no money and her family had money, she dated one of the most popular guys. She also had a battle with anorexia back then.) To my surprise she was very nice and happy to see me. We chatted briefly and I think we may run a few races this fall together, she already sent me her list she is doing.

I am taking this weekend off from running a race and putting 2 weeks of training before my next 5K. I am going to try to increase my distance of my training runs as I hear this is good way to gain speed on race day. I also plan on starting some more ‘training’ programs next week and do some interval training, not sure how I handle this…. My son goes to training camp for soccer a week from today, so I will be running races on my own. Hopefully, my wife will wake up and come out to support me at the next race.

Went to the Dr. this morning and got my blood work results, even with my diet change, I have to stay on meds for PB and start again on cholesterol meds. I stopped taking the cholesterol meds a few years ago when I could not afford them. They have generics now of the one he put me on, so much cheaper. Overall everything else looks good, I did have a high protein reading, but he retested me in the office.

Great 5K time!! 1:10 is a huge improvement over a short period. I love interval training, but don't do it nearly as often as I should. I found it the best way to get the highest calorie burn since you can work harder, knowing you can slow down in 40 seconds or whatever intervals you go with. Good luck!

Congrats on the new PR!! Keep pushing harder and time will keep shaving off. You're doing great. And maybe this old high school acquaintence will turn into a new running buddy? People change! Try to go in with an open mind :)

way to go. I hope to get a 27min 5K someday in an official race. Heck, anything under 30 would be an improvement.

Congrats on completing another one! I'm surprised at how many of the "stuck up" kids from school all seem so friendly now. Time changes a lot of things.

Wow!! That's a great time and an awesome PR improvement!! Glad you were able to chat with that girl and see how different things can be after some time goes by - it makes me sad to see some of the snotty people from my high school class that act exactly the same as they did back then...

Awesome PR! That is so great! You did better then me, I hated HS and would have ran on by or slowed down to avoid. LOL But it goes to show that we can always be surprised by the pleasant in people. :-)

Great job on the 5K! I probably would have been 185th out of 185, so good for you!! I hope the reconnection with your classmate goes well and you can have a race buddy to give you some encouragement and motivation. Even if you have to take the meds, you are making yourself healthier and that is a great accomplishment.
