Multiplicity1's Journal, 04 May 2010

I was worried today about losing my husband to cancer or in the surgery he is having Thursday and I wanted to eat. I ended up staying on my food plan but eating a lot of calories today over 1800. I mostly ate vegetables so I don't feel bad about today. What I wanted to eat was comfort food like Ding Dongs or ice cream. For today that is not an option. I ate strawberries and almonds and pork rinds and lots of vegetables. I am going to focus on keeping my mind positive and visualize only positive outcomes. I ordered a DVD copy of The Secret today and a copy of a book called The Secret Gratitude journal. It was my reward for losing 30 lbs. I forgot to mention that my weigh-in was today and I did not lose or gain any weight. I was disappointed even though I know I can't lose weight every week. Not losing made me want to eat also but I didn't. Even right now I am craving comfort foods but I am not going to eat anything off my plan just for today. Now I am going to go watch some old reruns of 7th Heaven with my 19 year old. Have a great evening!

Keep thinking about the 30 pounds you've lost! You don't want to have to lose it all over again! Sometimes you lose more when your calories are up if they are the right kind of calories (not ice cream!) so hopefully you'll be pleasantly surprised next weigh in! Hang in there!

Things don't get much more stressful than what's already on your plate, so I think you should feel really GOOD about how you're dealing with it. And thirty pounds!!! That's a BIG difference. I'm with luckylady, too. Sometimes when you feed your body a bit more than it's used to, you fool it or something and you can end up dropping weight. So feel great about your choices and know that you've just gotten through another tough day and all you did was eat a few extra veggies and things that are on your diet plan. Way to go. I'm sure your husband will come through his surgery with flying colors. Keep the faith. : )

Andrea, you did just fine! No sugar, no chips, nothing that is not part of your WOE. I know you are worried, but you CAN do this. My mom had ankle replacement surgery on the 26th of January. She is 72. I started my new WOE on the 24th of January. Since that time, dad has had surgery for a ruptued disc, prostate surgery, and a stroke. Spent a lot of time in the hospital, and running back and forth. So I completely understand where you are coming from. Decide now that you ar not going to let this get to your WOE or to your frame of mind. You are a strong, wonderful woman, and you can deal with this without resorting to your old ways of eating and dealing with stress. If you find yourself really losing it, get on here and write it in your journal! Take care of yourself. I am praying for your hubby and for you. God bless!

Andrea, I agree with everyone here you did great! I actually was in a stall for a month at 297 lbs and read a forum on the Atkins site about why stalls happen and learned I had thrown my body into starvation mode so I needed to eat more! Since adding about 1000 calories to my diet I have now dropped from the 297 down to 293.5 this morning! I gained at first when adding the calories but listened to the folks on the forum and kept eating more and the next thing I knew I was losing again! So you may indeed find out eating more caused you to drop more weight.

It's so hard to stay motivated through a stall or when you put a bit back on (as I've just done :( ) but stick with it - it'll start shifting again!

Andrea - what did you do w/ your list of things to do...from the Beck Solution - when stress / emotional comfort eating strikes! Pull that list out girl...I remember it -that was a good chapter!!! Even if you did eat alot of calories, what you chose were healthy, responsible selections for your lifestyle! That's AWESOME! Whether it's music, or reading, or knitting or prayer...I hope you find some alternatives that help you relieve some of the stress...like steam from a kettle...without falling back to the ring dings and ho ho's! None of us ever need to go back there :). I love you...and am lifting your husband in prayer for tomorrow! We are all here for ya!

Thanks everyone - I am focusing on staying positive and not deviating from my WOE. I will pull out The Beck Diet Solution and look at the chapter on cravings.
