So... the saga continues. After writing on Sunday about the episode I had and the realization I hadn't told my Doc, I sent him a quick email letting him know. Within 1/2 hour he emailed back telling me to go to the ER. Obviously, I wasn't going there since I was quite obviously NOT in distress, so he settled for my going to Urgent Care. He told me he wanted a chest X-ray, an EKG, and a whole litany of blood tests run. I went. They did the EKG. They ignored the rest and sent me home with the suggestion to be sure to drink plenty of water. Wow. I mean, obviously I was no longer in distress, but seriously? OH! ...and ironically, everyone said I should have gone to the ER despite my fear of being diminished or dismissed while simultaneously doing just that. In the meantime, my husband was at home keeping the Doc apprised of what was happening. By late afternoon, I had orders to go BACK to the hospital and get the labs done that he had requested, but they refused to order. He kept me posted as they came in, but today was the follow-up. He never received the EKG, but the labs showed low troponin, which makes a heart attack unlikely. My other labs, however... well, they indicate a high risk for developing coronary artery disease and he wants to proceed as if I had a cardiac event. IF this ever happens again, I will definitely go to the hospital. I'm in tears as I write this... I'm frustrated because it seems like the drastic dietary change had no effect on the blood tests. 30 lbs didn't matter?! I know, I know... the work I've done may have kept it from being more serious. I'm just MAD. I have to do more. ...and I'm a little terrified it WILL happen again. ...and I have a massive headache that's keeping me from doing anything today.
