Thanks Crystal, liz-andra and Katsolo. The 2nd company is here and started working right away. Less than half the price of the first company. I checked them out before calling them and they are reputable. So was the first company who said they were booked up for at least a month and the job would take 2 weeks. This guy is working alone, told me everything he would do and it will be 3 - 4 days. The only difference is insulation. The first company would have replaced it. This guy is taking out the insulation because it is all contaminated but I need to have it replaced. Sill many thousand dollars less. I was very wary of the first quote. They were twice what insurance would pay for mold remediation and insulation. Still not sure about submitting a claim, don't want my policy cancelled.

I wouldn’t submit a claim. Too many reasons to cancel you in CA anyways. My two cents, worth exactly that.

Hang in there. Stay warm. Sorry, can't seem to help but think how funny it would be to iron a bra. At least it's nice & toasty😂..

Katsolo - I filed a claim. I spoke to the woman in my agent's office. We had talked at length when this first hours. She says since I've had homeowners insurance with them since 1998 with no claims that nothing will be held against me. She said it is a significant problem and to file a claim. There's a good chance it will be denied, depending on what caused the pipe to leak. She told me in California they aren't allowed to cancel policies due to fire danger for at least a year. Hopefully, I will have sold the house by then. ACBelle. It's cold in the house and now all the insulation under the house is gone. But I was fine overnight with heated blankets and 3 warm cats laying close to me. It was crazy ironing a bra but the only way to get it dry. Can't wait to get the dryer vent installed. It's supposed to be done Wednesday but I'm not sure if they can do it while the mold remediation is being done. Hopefully by Wednesday everything will just be drying out.

Sit naked under the blanket and you won't have any clothes to wash! ;) Great job on your losses! Hope all your stuff is up and running soon! Hate house stuff!

I like hearing such ordinary troubles. so I am not alone. so I know others are trying hard to stick to it in the face of difficulty. yesterday after doing so well for so long I nearly a full cup of salted nuts. 😥😩

I’m so glad, I don’t want to tell you what to do, but my gut screamed objection to the first one. Glad you have good people helping you now.

Thanks DP - I started reading your comment and was wondering why you would tell me to sit naked under the blanket then saw the rest! Too funny. I've done at least 3 loads of wash that I've hung to dry, but my sister lives just a couple blocks away and I did use her dryer one day to dry some heavier items. Kenna - I had a space heater but always worried about the pets knocking it over or getting close to it. I don't have one know, but may look for one. Susan - salted nuts have done me in numerous times. I've purchased the big jar at Costco and then end up throwing most of it out because I can't stop eating them. I do better having a few raw almonds most days to get a little protein. Katsolo - I was desperate to get more ideas on how to take care of the mold and get another price. It really isn't a large industry so apparently they can charge what they want. Luckily the lady at the electrician's office referred me to a company in Sacramento and that's who came out and they are so reasonable compared to the other company. They have a 100% unconditional guarantee and I like that they are treating this like an emergency. I think he is done with most of the work. Things are drying out now and he'll be back Monday or Tuesday. And he's hauling away everything. I have about 6-10 wooden pallets under the house. I'm sure they are full of mold too. I was going to have a junk hauler come to take them away, but this guy said he will haul them for me. I've got to get a gift for the lady in the electrician's office. Her referral changed this whole situation for me.
