Good job jp. Me and squats have a love/hate relationship. I hate to do them, but I love seeing the quads starting to divide. :)

Also - Squats are the most effective way to shame young 'uns in the gym.

SJ: R is short for RPE or "Rate of Perceived Exertion" on a 10 scale. R7 means "couple reps left in the tank," aka not working hard enough. R10 means "failure," aka dropping the bar. Most useful in assessing strength week to week. For example, last week time I pressed, I barely got 5 at 105; or R9+. Same weight this session, easily blew out my target (R7). "What changed?" could be a useful question.

I agree on shaming the young guys. They love to wear their muscle shirts (often open to the waist on the sides) to show their natural scrawniness, as though it was the same as being ripped. I've actually had some stare while I'm doing squats. It's weird. The most fun I had though was with a young woman in her 30s who is one of Canada's top 5 natural bodybuilders, or was at the time. I knew her through my mom and had several conversations with her before. Some young guys kept ogling her. I walked in dressed in my sweats and she came over to me and said something like 'play along'. She began fawning over me. It was hilarious. When she walked away she said 'see you tonight'. I walked past those guys and said 'Keep working boys'.
