Toni Bourlon's Journal, 21 February 2020

Today I'm feeling a little discouraged. I ran another 2 miles, this time throwing in a 30 second sprint at 6mph every 1/4 mile. Really proud of that, but then I got on the scale this morning and it reads 146 lbs. I've gained back a lb, and I don't think it's water weight. Wish I could call it muscle, but probably not. I did look at the calories from yesterday & I was over my allotment by about 200 cals, plus a little too high in the carbs/fat & too low in the protein. I'll have to watch that a little closer today. Now here's a funny thing - after running I watched a video where a girl decided to train for a month like Rey from Star Wars. She lost just a few lbs, but dropped her bodyfat from 19% to 14%, YIKES! I'd be happy to get my body fat below 30%, it's somewhere between 36 & 38% currently. Anyway, she did a LOT of weight training and literally weighed everything, even took a scale with her to a restaurant. That's pretty extreme, IMO, but I'm obviously going to have to get out of my comfort zone if I want to do this. Today is SO COLD, but I fully intend to hit the Smith machine at the gym tonight, & maybe I'll get some pictures to prove it!

Weight fluctuates...that's just what it does. Measure yourself if it will ease your mind otherwise just stay the course and know you're succeeding. I'm losing inches, gaining muscle...it is what it is. 💪🏼🤷🏻‍♀️💕

Weight fluctuates. You could have full intestines, maybe there is some water weight, etc. You are going to find that weight fluctuates every day, up a little, down a little, up a lot, down none. My goal this year is to get into the 20-25% bodyfat range. I am 62. Consistency is the key - keeping muscle while losing fat can be done with strict food intake, and getting fit is more than 80% food intake not exercise. I know someone who has built up muscle, but he was thrilled gaining 5 pounds of muscle in one year so maintaining muscle mass and eating well with high protein and low fat and low carb are the also how to do it.

That is absolutely nothing to worry about. If I eat alot of chicken one day within my calorie plan, I gain until 24 hours later. Water consumption, heavy calories like chicken, will show up as weight until your body relieves itself of it. What is a heavy Calorie? 8 oz. of chicken can be 300 calories when boiled. eat 2000. calories of chicken in one day and let me know if you put weight on the next day! lol! then weigh yourself one day later when everything has passed, let me know if you gained any weight. you wont, as long as you are in defecit. Be happy. Most people dont run. Be discouraged, but use it to better yourself and remember we are aqueous so we fluctuate none the less! 👆👇👍

The scale is a fickle mistress. If you are discouraged by these inevitable fluctuations, you might consider calculating a 7 day moving average of your scale weight. That will give you a much more accurate indicator of your weight trend. Let's go!

I always gain after running. My body holds onto all water and food like it’s never seen it before. I also do sprints. My normal run is 3.25 miles. Walk at 3.9 miles, jog at 5.8. Last 10 min I interval 1 min at a time between 6.5-7.5. . It’s a great feeling!!!
