Gaining on 800 cal/day
I'm under care of a dietitian because I couldn't lose weight. We've had my resting metabolism tested and it is poor. We've finally worked out that if I eat 900 calories per day or 1100 if I do an hour's exercise I'm losing slowly. I wasn't exercising every day until I had a heart calcium score done recently and I have a (low) score, and it has prompted (scared me) into exercising every day and trying to lower my cholesterol through diet. My score is low enough that advice from doctors is to lower via diet. I eat a good diet, but obviously it needed some tweaking. I'm 5'2" and in my 20s was 48kg. I got up to 65kg 18 months ago and decided I needed to change things.

Even at 65kg I didn't look huge, but for 5'2" I felt just awful and clearly was overweight.

I don't want to be 48kg again but I'm keen to get to about 55kg. I have a small frame, am short, and that is a comfortable weight for me.

What I've found is that sometimes I record say "apple - medium" as well as record it actually weighed in grams, just to see how accurate my "guesses" are. I'm always under guessing, so perhaps weighing everything is the answer. I'd guess that I could easily "lose" 200 calories just in under-guessing each bit of food I eat through the day.

Some people think weighing everyone is over the top, but when you are determined, it is necessary. I have a very good idea of some things I eat regularly, but I am retired and home and weighing things is very easy to do. If I'm out I just guess of course, and like to over-estimate rather than the other way.

I would add that before seeing a dietitian I tried the 5/2 diet, used diet bars (worked, but how boring). When I was eating the bars, I was eating exact calories and losing weight , so it seemed clear that I was not estimating my "real" food well enough without weighing it.

What do the coloured bars mean in My Weight History and can we ask for a product to be added to the
Hello. I'm not sure how to find an answer so thought the forum might be able to help me.

I've been using fatsecret for a couple of years and love the simplicity and user friendliness of it.

I've not really looked around further than recording my food but getting some support from journal entries has made me realise there is more here than just recording.

I've looked at "My Weight History" and wonder what the different coloured bars beside each entry mean. Can anyone help me?

Also, whilst it is very easy to find a substitute for a product that might not be listed, is there any way to request some product be added to the database?

Many thanks.

How do I force my journal to move to 1 Oct? It thinks it is still 30 Sept...
Cancel that question... I managed to find the way to do it. For anyone else with this issue, I clicked on the box up top with the date, clicked on "Month View" and under the box showing all I'd recorded for the month of September, I clicked on "October" and then clicked on the right day.

Sleeping aids when mind just can't stop working
The only way I can stop thinking about the problems I'm dealing with (family issues or anything else) is to listen to a podcast. I find I concentrate on the speaker, and usually I'm asleep within ten minutes. Without this, my worries run around inside my head like a hamster on a wheel. I start the podcast and set it to turn off either after half an hour or "when the episode ends" and often I have to listen night after night to hear the whole thing. Works for me.
