I quit smoking cold turkey fifteen years ago. I shot up from 165 to 230 within a year. I grew to 245 over the next 5 years, and since then haven't budged from the 245 line, no matter what I *thought* I was trying.

...until recently. We went on a beach vacation and I found that my clothes - none of the - fit any more. I'd gained another 15 somewhere in the past few years, despite increased activity levels and what I thought was reduced intake. 260.

Well enough is enough.

So I started with a 2-day fast to try to normalize blood sugar levels and then started trying to count calories and keep it under 1900. It started as slow going, so now I'm trying a different tactic.

1) Exercise a little every day
2) Keep intake low low low - as low as possible without social situations becoming rare
3) Vitamin Supplements
4) Drink boat tons of water. 3 liters every day at work, and another throughout the day.

We'll see if it works.

My end goal here is to get to my pre-quit-smoking weight. At that point, it will have been long enough that my eating habits will really be habits, and not a diet I'm following/lapsing. Maybe then I'll be able to be as active and mobile and nimble and such as I was back then. It's been fifteen years, so I have no illusions about it going perfectly.

But as of this writing, 1 May 2014, I'm back below the demon 245 line, so that's something.
