The good weeks keep adding up and my weight keeps going down. If someone had told me that I could lose as much weight eating 200 grams of carb a day as when I was eating 40, I would have said they were nuts. But apparently with higher carb and lower fat eating not only does the weight continue to drop off, but my blood pressure is lower and my blood glucose continues to be in my target range. I can't wait to have my cholesterol numbers checked in January.
I've been learning to cook all sorts of new recipes, all of them whole food plant based. Delicious and very filling. Exercise goes well, too.
Have a great week everyone.

This was my first full week eating a whole food plant based diet instead of low carb. I expected my weight might go up as so many people report when they suddenly eat more carbs. It didn't happen. Maybe because I was eating really healthy food and my calories stayed the same?
I danced 4 times this week! Twice were lessons, the third time was a daytime dance at the senior centre, and last night our square dancing club had it's annual Harvest Ball. 15 squares on the floor at one time. It was wonderful, but confusing. I am looking forward to class on Monday. The nicest part of all of this is that the people I have met are great, just the friendliest people you'd ever want to know.
Hope everyone has a good day. I need to get ready to hit the gym.

This was a big week for me--and I am not just talking weight loss. I was actually surprised to see that I had lost any weight at all this week. No, I didn't fall off the wagon. I changed wagons.
I decided to move from a low carb diet and begin to eat a whole food plant based (WFPB) diet. It's quite similar to vegan, but some vegans eat only for the sake of the animals and fill up on things like oreo cookies (yes, they're vegan)and meat substitutes that are not necessarily health promoting.
In any case, folks who eat low carb often report that if they increase their carbs they put on a bunch of water weight very quickly. That is why I was surprised by the weight loss.So far, so good.
I did a lot of research before making this decision. I decided to start last week because there was a 4 day on-line seminar with some of the leading proponents of LFPB eating being put on by University of California, Davis in celebration of World Food Day 2014. Here is a link to the Nurture Your Health webinars: http://nurtureyourhealthforum.com/nyhf2014/
BTW, I was shocked to find that my blood glucose numbers are great--even with 2x the carbs I had been eating. None of thee speakers at the webinar would be though.

I was surprised when I got on the scale this morning I had been hoping I would be below 195, but I never expected 192.8! It was not as great for exercise the past few days, but I did see the recreational therapist and he started me on a machine-less circuit that is designed to help me build core strength and stability. I thought it would not effect me, but boy am I sore the day after I do it. I am supposed to do this series of exercises 3 times a week.
I need fitness things that will make up for the fact that I can't walk as much outside now that we are heading into winter. The rec guy, who is also a kinesiologist, is going to help me figure out how to safely use some of the machines at our recreation centre later in the month. The square dancing gets me moving twice a week, so that is a help.
I see my doctor on Tuesday. I saw the nurse/diabetes educator this past week. Over the past three months my A1C went from 9.4 to 5.9. That means that my blood sugar is in the normal range now. My blood pressure is also very good. It may mean that the doctor will reduce some of my meds. That would be a good thing.
Anyway, no complaints from me today! I hope everyone is having a good weekend and is heading toward a great week.

Still doing well. Next week I see my doctor and have lab work to see if my cholesterol and a1c are responding to my changes in food and exercise. I also see the nurse who is working with me on these. I imagine they will be pleased with the results. I know I am.
I do have to buy some clothes. I dont want to spend a lot of money, because I am only part way to my goal, but I look funny walking around in stuff that is just too big. It's a good problem to have. Early in the spring, I had been given a 2x t-shirt for volunteering at a community event. It was the largest size they had, and didn't fit me. I put it on yesterday, and it fit just fine. Now, for some people wearing a 2X would be nothing to be proud of, but it felt like a victory to me. I remembered how ashamed I was when I checked in to volunteer and I could not wear a shirt like everyone else.
Next weekend I am taking part in the Walk for a Cure. I will be able to proudly wear a 2x shirt.
Love to everyone doing this hard thing!
