Married to my lovely wife, we have 2 kids now college age, 2 dogs and 2 cats. I'm wanting to lose weight for my health and energy level. I understand all the mechanics and psychology of it, but it all boils down to motivation and resolve for me. I found that recording my diet,exercise and weight really helps keep me goal oriented.

Excercise calendar resting and sleeping calories seem way off
At age 54 and 270 lbs. I need to lose at least 50 lbs. While entering my excretes on the calendar (since I'm doing none now) I accept the 8 hours sleeping and 16 hours resting - and it calculates my daily calorie burn at 3305!

I work, so I drive at least 1 hour per day, and I sit at a desk and walk around a bit. If I enter that activity the calorie count goes to 3498.

I know that I don't burn over 3000 calories per day even doing my normal activity. I suppose the calculation is based on a healthy low fat lean muscle specimen, I could see a 270 lbs. body builder burning 3300 calories a day by just breathing, but that number is unrealistic by my accounting.

CHEATING!
...to waffles with butter and syrup? Good question.

When I quit smoking many, many years ago, I was able to beat the cravings by a) substituting something that was not harmful (like chewing gum) and b) by taking pride in the progress I had made and not wanting to lose all that by doing something dumb, and c) If I did fall off I checked it quickly and realized that it was not worth it...
