I'm a sister, friend and mother of one. I took a break from FatSecret a while ago but came back in September 2022 because the community was always so encouraging. I got down to 172 in 2020 through intermittent fasting but steadily gained through 2021 as I mourn the sudden, unexpected passing of my father. I’m motivated to lose weight now as I have severe osteoarthritis in both knees and carrying this extra weight is now painful mentally and physically.

I weigh myself quite regularly, but I’m not as interested in the numbers on the scale as I am my waist to hip ratio, body water percentage and body fat percentage. I have a Polar Ignite watch to track my exercise and activity and a Tanita scale to help me keep perspective with my weigh ins. If you want to connect and encourage, get in touch. It's all about accountability and doing the work. Good luck with your health regime, whatever your goals may be.

My goals
Body fat 30%
Body water 45%
Waist-to-hip ratio 80% or less

How Often Do you weigh yourself?
gismusicelle wrote:
Do you weigh in every day or just once week?

I weigh once a week - as dictated by the programme I'm doing. My ultimate goal is to lose about 50 pounds. This is a long term goal that I'm hoping to achieve in about seven months time. I don't want to get distracted by the daily weight fluctuations and get myself upset. Saturday is Stat-urday so I weigh and record my measurements.

What was the catalyst that made you decide to lose weight?
Wow. All of these stories are so inspiring. Seeing myself in a photo was my reality check. Coupled with this, all the things I used to enjoy doing (rollerblading and cycling) were getting harder to do so I just eventually stopped. My weight crept on over the course of the last 3 years. I had a lot of change and issues personally and professionally (moving, break ups) so I consoled myself with colleagues in the pub. When the inevitable hangover came, I would seek to cure it with greasy fry ups in the morning or eating as soon as I got home (often in the late hours). Following death of my grandmother last year, I crept up to my heaviest. I didn't like it but I wasn't sure how to change. Discovering FatSecret has been a godsend. I have had some stops and starts but I am a lot more conscious of the type of food I eat (calories, protein, fiber). I have lost 10 pounds and am starting to feel myself again. It'll be a long haul but I'm prepared for and committed to it this time.

fell off the wagon
time to get really strict. i WILL lose 10 pounds by the end of the year. i have been doing well but i have plateaued. time to kick it up a notch and really buckle down. weight has been creeping up slowly over the last couple of weeks (i guess water retention might explain some of it) but still, i know what i have to do. just need to do it now.

Has Anyone Else Had Trouble Losing Weight Even Though They Are Sticking To Their Diet?
Wow. What an interesting thread. I feel less guilty about my cheat days now. Mine is typically on a Thursday (always includes a bit of wine with dinner, a killer because wine is empty calories.) But when everyone is going to the pub on Friday, I'm less likely to drink as much because I will have had my cheat the day before. Seems to work so far.
