I was on the Atkins diet about 20 years ago. It was a great diet for me, unfortunately after 5 years on the diet I started slipping into just a bite of a Christmas cookie here and piece of birthday cake there until I was totally off the program and gaining weight fast. As carbs increase you have to reduce fat intake - or look out!! Long story short, even after o few years off the Atkins program my doctor was very impressed with my lab work. My LDL cholesterol was high but, he had never seen any one with such high HDL cholesterol as mine. My midriff didn't carry extra weight and my muscle tone was good. When I measured my ketones I consistently had a bit of color on the stick, I think ketosis works for me. I turning my habits around to do what has worked best for me in the past - low carb / ketosis. Low carb is healthy especially if the few carbs you have are not refined sugars. I stayed between 40 - 50 carbs a day, no sugar, lots of water and vitamins. Now I eat organic when I can and grass fed or open range meat and vegetables. Unsweetened Berries are a great low carb fruit. Nuts are a great snack. Avocado oil, coconut oil, and nut oils are terrific. I love dairy and ate a lot of dairy on the Atkins diet. I avoid it now, it isn't healthy for me. I will use clarified butter. I update favorite recipes to low carb. I think ketosis is real. It works for me and there is a lot research that it works. If ketosis fit isn't working it could be due to inconsistency. You can't bounce around and expect it to work. You're in and stay in.
My reminder and pep talk to myself to get me back on track and stay there.
