I am losing a pound a week with a low carb diet. I have found food journals to be useful tools for weight loss in the past and I want to start an activity journal.

Most low-carb diets allow berries at some point. Do not allow this seasonal time of year go by without getting a bag of fresh cranberries. Toss the berries into a Cuisinart with a piece of cut up citrus fruit, peel and all, add two tablespoons of any sweetener. This relish will last in the fridge for two weeks but the batch I made Monday is already gone. Cheers.

holidays
Thanks, we had a pre-thanksgiving feast yesterday since we'll be apart for the actual holiday. Roasted turkey stuffed with onions, riced cauliflower with gravy and cranberry relish. All legal. I'm saving the pumpkin pie for the real thanksgiving cheat when I'm alone and feeling sorry for my self. But I also always increase my hike distance when I'm left alone. HA, just another rationalization. But I'll be good till then. Now Christmas at my mother's farm in Iowa is another story. I swear every time I shovel the driveway or walk around to see holiday lights, I come back into the house to a freshly baked pie or warm cookies. Such a good mom and as a dutiful son, I eat them. I'm already looking forward to the peanut butter cookies with chocolate stars she makes just for me. I'm going on a walk right now as a preemptive strike.

holidays
The night before and the night of Halloween I ate a lot of peanut butter cups but I walked a good five miles each night to look at jack-o-lanterns and decorations. Then I had husbands b-day with Chinese take out (his fave) one night and ice cream cake the next, again I walked 5 miles each night. My weight stayed the same, but I kept thinking while hiking, I'm just burning off my little diet indiscretions not my body fat, not progress, just maintenance. I've really got to use more will power through the next 3 big eating and drinking holidays. I was good about not drinking at all except one low carb beer before going to "Thor", but again walked the 1 mile to theatre and back, so that's a wash. Am I being good or just good at rationalization? Cheers.

fitness tips
Brilliant, I have a stack of podcasts on CD a friend burns for me that I have yet to listen to. Now to invest in some portable tech, I still have a flip phone. All good ideas. I have trouble finding anything on TV worth watching while there, I think I'll try going during my favorite shows instead of watching them from my couch. I could get really buff if I camped out there for marathon weekends of Game of Thrones or Mad Men. HA! Cheers.

fitness tips
I love walking outside but with Seattle's rainy season here and that regular routine is coming to an end. I don't mind being rained on. (Turns out my mother is right, I am not made of sugar.) It's the big puddles and the cars splashing me. My building has a beautiful new fitness center, but it is so boring. Any tips on how to make 10 miles on the treadmill less excruciating.
