Starting dieting with stress and depression.
Hi Nicoline, I know exactly what you are going through, My fiance is in the same predicament. The way she overcame the problem was simply- baby steps.
The first baby step you have already overcome which is that you have a handle on your predicament, you enjoy your gym which is fantastic so you should be extremely proud of yourself so far.

Dont worry about your mom, This is your project and you own it, shes not going to lose any weight for you. As long as you are still at home and you feel you have to eat what is put before you, try to eat smaller portions, and leave some on your plate, moderation is often the key, many people who stress eat (I dont know if you do stress eat)are not aware that they are doing so and consume excess calories that they dont need and it really takes a cutting down of the same foods to get the weight shedding.Dont cut out anything yet, Try and be in the right mindset when you eat, be aware and just eat less of the same food for a week and see if you come down any, even if its a tiny amount of weight, it would be progress. If you dont make any progress, then go onto the next step and look at what you are eating. Start with your bug bear - sugar, cut maybe one teaspoon of sugar from your coffee or tea, if you eat a lot of bread, cut out one or two slices a day together with a small cut of sugar and do that for a week and see how you go. You have to use the elimination factor to work out what works for your particular body.
I know proffessional bodybuilders who eat six times a day and they are in fantastic condition and I know proffessional bodybuilders who only eat once a day and actually cant eat six times a day, even with all the excercise because they pile on weight, so you have to listen to your body and slowly work whats best for you. be very patient, try to be positive and look at the dissapointments as another reason not to continue on that diet path which will put you closer to the right diet regime for you.

Good luck.
