I'm 29 now and, for those of you who are in your early and mid-20’s, let me tell you it will only get harder to lose it every day from there out! People used to tell me that, but I thought I wouldn't notice it until 35 or later. SO NOT THE CASE!

I was always thin growing up and even through college. I gained a few pounds in law school, but manageable amounts I was able to lose quickly when I tried. Then I got married in 2008 and since then I've gained 17 pounds in "Happy Weight" celebrating and taking trips and celebrating some more. I have never weighed this much, and I’m really having to work to take it off. I'm hoping all this "community" stuff will help keep me motivated!

Bikram (hot) yoga
I love hot yoga and I'm so glad to have found this topic. I wondered how much weight loss i might get from it, but i really became addicted just to the feeling afterwards-- regardless of any weight loss.
When i first picked up hot yoga (a Bikram class) i wasn't really counting calories and i was eating whatever i wanted (post-wedding "fat n happy"Wink so i think i would have had to live in the studio to fight off the amount of calories i was taking in. when my pants no longer fit, i left hot yoga for more "hardcore" calorie burns at a Les Mills group class gym. I go there 4-5 times a week now and i do enjoy it.

But I miss my yoga!! I'm noticing that my feet are feeling further away than they used to (my gauge for how far I’ve come in my practice-- how "close" do my feet seem). so I’m biting the bullet and trying to integrate both into my routine. you find the time for things that are important to you.

I'd seen the the 1,000 calorie per class counts before and that seems fairly high-- to correlate, that would be the equivalent of running 10 miles (@ 100 calories per mile). My husband is a distance runner and i wouldn't dare compare my Bikram class to his 10-milers.

and ginnyray: if Bikram had anything to do with the way your body looks, we should all be there-- now!!
