Someone who used to be a slim, fit, athlete, but since taking on a husband and a pre-assembled kid, I have little time and have to cook—something I hate doing. Making them happy with food choices are foods that have made me gain weight. I used to be very active riding horses and teaching for hours after my day job, but now all I have time to do is cook and clean, sit at a desk job for 8 hours, do housework and collapse for a few hours. That spells F A T. I'm trying to change and make them do more for themselves and make time for me to ride horses again 3x a week besides teaching riding. I can't fit in my custom riding boots. That's what triggered me to join this site. Enough is enough.

Beer
I find I drink more beer if it's the pilsner kind—goes down too easy. Takes me longer to drink a dark beer.

But this is my trick: With the beer order, order a glass of water with a slice of lime or lemon in it, and alternate drinking from both glasses (helps if you are somewhere you can set one down, sit at the bar or a table if you can.)
Many +'s to this: Helps cut the calories by making your beer last longer, cuts your bar tab down, and helps you stay hydrated. It's a win-win-win situation! (You MGHT still be legal to drive yourself home in 2 or 3 hours too!). I love dark beer so this helps. At first it seems weird, but then you start too feel lost without the water to sip on too—think of it as "cleansing the palate!" You can enjoy great tasting beer at half the calories this way.
My mixed drink of lower cal choice favorite is Rum and Diet Coke.
