starting Adkins
Hello Zahira, and welcome. I agree with your first respondent: just dive in.

I began with Atkins Induction Phase, in order to get my body burning fat instead of carbs. It took about four weeks, but the results were most encouraging.

Then I switched to Doctor Surrell's "SOS" ("Stop Only Sugar"Wink diet, which is more liberal than the Atkins, but achieves the same result in a less traumatic fashion.

After a couple of months on "SOS" I realized that the secret is really a balance away from carbs, with emphasis on caloric intake versus caloric exertion. You will see this yourself if you record your "SOS" consumption and follow Dr Surrell's advice to read labels religiously.

That is when I devised my own diet, based on my knowledge of my activity level, and intake control. For me, a diet of 1500 calories per day, with the emphasis on greens, proteins and dietary fibre, maintained a solid weight loss rate of 1- 2 lbs every two weeks. That has diminished over time, as my body weight declined. I am now averaging between .25 and .5 lb per week.

When I began, I had 120 pounds to lose. Now I am working on my last 20. I have actually increased my caloric intake because I want to have a "soft" landing when I reach my goal. I truly believe that I am no longer on a "diet", but have achieved a healthy, manageable "way of life."

If I reach my goal by the end of this year (I am no longer "in a hurry"Wink it will have taken my more than two years to get there. And I will be grateful.

Best of luck to you. Get started, and stick with it.
