How can I curb the Carbs?
Bookwyrmb wrote:
Whole grains, despite the hype, are NOT good carbs!!! No grains are good carbs (except maybe white rice). Why? Whole books have been written on the subject. I have room here to just remind us that the glycemic load for a piece of whole grain bread is higher than table sugar! A Snicker Bar would be an unhealthy, but better choice. Grains irritate the intestinal lining, destroy intestinal cilia, reducing the intestinal lining's ability to do its job, prevent the absorption of minerals, and give the brain a dose of opium-like compound that causes the susceptible to become addicted. A brand new book by a cardiologist will give you the latest research: Wheat Belly. Read it if you care and if your addiction doesn't give you a bad case of denial. The government health agencies are peopled by folks from the grain and manufactured oils industries, so we cannot rely on them to be our watchdogs. Take responsibility for your own health.
If you have celiacs disease or "leaky gut", then yes, stay away from whole grains that have gluten. Whole grains are low fat and high in fiber. White rice is processed, bleached brown rice...basically, it has lost it's bran and its good nutrients. White rice is nothing more then simple carbs aka refined carbs. Empty starchy cals.
There are many long term studies by the medical/science community stating the benefits of Whole Grain. It helps lower cholestrol, prevent heart disease, diabetes, colon cancers and prevents constipation to name a few...

I believe the reason we have increase cases of ADD/ADHD, Autism, heart disease, diabetes and colon cancers in the past 20-25 years is because we eat too many processed foods loaded with unnecessary chemicals added all in the name of profit.
If your diet is working for you great...

How can I curb the Carbs?
@ liv001...
I agree with you...what works for one, may not work for another. Avocados are great, too! The point I was trying to convey, not all carbs are bad and the key is moderation. Our body needs complex carbs. Stay away from refined grains and simple carbs. If we totally ate proteins or totally ate carbs, our body would miss out on certain nutrients and place us at risk for certain medical issues and/or diseases.

How can I curb the Carbs?
Poor 'ol carbs...Not all carbs are bad. I don't understand why people freak?!? Just about everything you eat and/or drinks has carbs. Remember, there are good carbs and bad carbs. Also, too much of anything is bad for you!
Whole grains, fruits and veggies are good carbs and something our body needs for fuel. I will admit, I'm a carb monkey but at 42 and staying under 120 lbs(except when I was pregnant)I think that shows, not all carbs are bad. Refined processed carbs are your enemy! Yep, white breads, pasta(that's not whole grain/whole wheat)cookies, cakes, white rice, sodas...etc. Those are the carbs to avoid!
Don't pick on the Bananas! Bananas are full of great nutrients that our body need...especially women! Eating bananas helps keep the cramps away! When I get a "charlie horse", I know I'm low on Potassium, time to grab a banana. Quick, cheap, portable and healthy...you just can't go wrong!
