Hello. I'm a 52 year old divorced mother of 3 grown children, 1 son and 2 daughters. I have one grandson (age 3 - almost 4). Over the years I've been pretty good about maintaining a balanced lifestyle which included exercise regularly. I try to ride my bike to and from work, but I live in a winter climate so basically 7 or 8 months out of the year are off limits to outdoor biking for me. I found that recently (my age and possibly menopause) the weight is steadily packing on and my appetite has been increasing. I've never been a portion controller because years ago (in 2002-2006) I was on Atkins and the lifestyle was not about counting calories. I did very well on that but changed to being a vegatarian for about a year, I even tried the Raw diet for a short while. All these lifestyles (diets) where a good discipline for monitoring what I eat and finding more about food in general (what's good - what's rich in fat, good & bad.. etc.). But lately, I've been eating what I want and not moving enough - it's caught up to me - so I'm going to try to watch the calories and portions. As this progresses, I'll hopefully incorporate some regular exercise into the routine.

Here we go!
I'm trying counting calories for the first time too and am also just into menopause. After doing this for 4 days I already like the discipline of having to "think" about everything you eat. Amazingly - you can still have food satisfaction. The first full day, I did feel a form of withdrawal. I know I needed to learn about portion control which seems to be a big part of the calorie counting. I wish you good luck.
