Hi Everyone, the last couple of weeks have been rough for me. The Friday before Christmas I noticed a painful spot on my right shin above my ankle. Youngest DD is a Medical Assistant, & she saw it on Saturday (next day), & said it looks like cellulitis & I shouldn't wait til Monday to see Dr. I waited til Sunday afternoon & noticed I was also feeling kind of sick & woozy, so I went to ER. They confirmed it was cellulitis, & I had an IV "bolus" (big dose) of antibiotic there, then they sent me home with 2 prescriptions for more antibiotics, which I just finished last night. Then on Tuesday before Christmas I re-injured my left shoulder & can't do much at all right now & don't want to make it worse. I haven't been able to go to the Y for pool exercises in over a week due to both my injury & Dr's appts, & I've been terrified of weighing in. Our scale's battery went bad & said for my last weigh-in that I'd gained like 10 lbs! I was so sad & frustrated, tho I tried telling myself it was just the dumb scale & not reality. So I haven't weighed myself for about 3 weeks. Hubby finally replaced the scale battery & I weighed in this AM, & I weighed in at 234.8 lbs ~ YAAAY!!!
All of these challenges actually served to make me even more careful about my eating, & I felt so bad whenever I ate too much or splurged on goodies, so I guess it all balanced out in the end, & I'm doin a Happy Dance! ~ ((Skinny Hugs))

Feeling a little bummed at my weight gain. I've been behaving very well with my eating habits, & haven't missed a day of pool therapy since I re-started it. But I'm quite sore from our weather change to much cooler temps, so maybe the gain has something to do with the weather? Snow is expected in our valley by Thanksgiving, & I can definitely feel this in every fiber of my body. Still adjusting back to having pool therapy, & going 3 times a week vs. 4. I'm going to the Y earlier now too, having joined a M-W-F exercise group that meets from 11AM to Noon. I arrive around 11:30, earliest I can wake up & get ready, then make the 30+ minute ride into the city. For me, just getting showered & dressed is often quite a workout, when my arthritis, tendonitis, fibro, etc. are flaring up. But I know I have to do this, & I WILL NEVER, EVER GIVE UP! I've finally completed a full year of our Low Cal & Low Carb dinner menus, but still need to edit & tweek things a bit, & fully coordinate between the Menu, the Recipes & the Grocery List. When finished, it will be a very practical & effective tool for people who want to eat healthy, & lose weight sensibly & keep it off permanently. I'm including nutrition info with each recipe, which also takes time to calculate when it's not already provided or is inaccurate as given. I know very well how deceptive the scale can be, & that if I keep at it, the numbers will keep coming down. It's just very hard to deal with sometimes, when you've done your best but that blasted scale says you've gained weight instead of losing!

Here is an interesting little fact I found on Calorie Lab .Com ~ LabDoor.com, a watchdog website that analyzes and evaluates vitamins and herbal supplements for safety and efficacy, conducted an unusual experiment to test a current dieter's tip: that you can reduce the calories in a slice of pizza by dabbing it with a paper napkin before eating. Their finding: indeed you can. According to their results, blotting the grease from the surface of a single slice of Domino's pepperoni pizza reduces the amount of fat therein from 13 grams to 8.5, a hefty 35 percent decrease, which works out to a reduction in calories per slice from 117 to 76.5. Based on the total amount of pizza the average American consumes annually -- 23 pounds -- the dabbing procedure could eliminate some 6,611 calories per year, the equivalent of 1.9 pounds of ungained weight.

YAAAY! "I'm back in the saddle again", & so happy about it! I plan to go gung ho to lose 38 more lbs, to have my left hip replaced. I know the pool therapy is a vital key to my success, & am very thankful to be able to continue with that. Both of our DDs who live nearby took me for our monthly shopping trip, to good old Walmart. Youngest DD is a caregiver at an Alzheimers & dementia facility. She works graveyard, so we don't see her nearly as often as our oldest DD, who also works full time, but comes up to our house most SAT's to help out with chores & such. It was a real pleasure to have the youngest one join us. We also had lunch at a Mexican restaurant that we like, so it was a very pleasant surprise that I lost a good amount even with eating out. I was a good girl & only ate my entree, leaving the rice, beans & lettuce behind. Maybe that made a bigger difference than I expected? Anyway, I'll take the weight loss however I can get it! I hope everyone has a great & successful week. ((((HUGS & BLESSINGS)))) GLAMMER
