kingkeld's Journal, 12 April 2012

Now that's more like it!

Good morning. I'm down a full kilo since yesterday. About time the scale finally budged! It's funny how my mind thinks that 79.6 kgs is so much better than 80.6. Does it really matter that much? Mentally - yes. Physically - probably not.

I do feel more at ease and that I'm on my way back to my goal weight again. I really want to stay close to it, preferably a little under it, but I understand that it won't always be so. I'm okay with that as long as I don't stray too far from the path.

I'm back on the bike today and I'm writing my journal on Tabby. It's nice to get used to typing more on it, as I see more use of this in the future forsøg many purposes. I've downloaded a custom keyboard called Swiftkey X, and it's so easy to type on. It predicts my words based on my language and word use to the point where I almost feel like it knows too much! It corrects by far the most typing errors and just makes the whole thing super easy. Nice.

...

I slept so good last night. Wife and I were watching TV and I kept nodding off at around 8 PM. I decided that I'd be better off just going to bed instead of fighting it. I slept like a baby until the alarm went off this morning. Nice.

This also meant that my preplanned evening smoothie got canceled, shaving off almost 200 caloriesnfrom yesterday's budget. I will put them in the stack of excess calories to spend on Saturday.

I ended up at just around 1100 calories yesterday. Way too low. However, today will be a little more reasonable. I'm even making room for cake. Wife's got some extra work hours, and these are gonna be spent on baking Mississippi Mud Pie for our entire work place. I've allotted myself a 100 g piece. This is the best cake in the world, pure evil, but I can't let her make it without me having any!! So I'm making room for it in today's food budget and I will fully enjoy it.

I don't think I really NEED to make room though. With the low calorie intake yesterday, I've got plenty of wiggle room for cake. I just feel that it's better for me to reset on a daily basis and ifni want to splurge today then at least compensate elsewhere. I think that's the mindset I need to have for the rest of my life - if I want the baddies, I need to focus on the healthier options too.

Tonight's healthier option is gonna be baked salmon and steamed vegetables, a favorite of mine. Nice, clean meat and you can almost TASTE the good stuffing does to you - in the exact same way as you can almost taste how a Mississippi Mud Pie will just instantly turn to fat and go live in your butt cheeks for the rest of your life. :-)

I think it's gonna be the snart approach to living reasonably healthy from now and the rest of my life. Not too obsessive, but with a keen eye on what I'm doing and focus on compensating when I make the less good food choices.

...
So, today I'm under 80 kgs again. I'm curious if I'm gonna be lower tomorrow. I hope so. I want to be a little further away from 80. I know, it will be easier after surgery, weighing a little less, but I think it's good practice to be doing "well under 80" already. 77 was my goal and will continue to be. Sometimes I just wish I had set it to 80! LOL. It world have made my life so much easier. However, we finish what we started, so 77 it is. I guess I should be happy I didn't set it to 73! :-)

...

Today is my long day at work. Three interviews where at least one is potential trouble. I'm curious how that one goes. It's all part of the job though, and I'll have to simply deal with it. I can and I will.

No plans tonight, other than that I have a clear mission of staying awake past 7:30 PM!

Today, I'm thankful for:
- afternoon coffee break with Wife's home made cake!
- getting on the bike for a full hour this morning. I gotta say I felt bad all day yesterday for not doing it, but my legs were begging me for a time out.
- Being able to journal while exercising. Time just zooms by.
- Morning coffee
- last day to eat pasta for a while. We made so much food that we've eaten it three days now. Enough! :-)

HAPPY Thursday! Life is good!

Although your journey has been much longer than mine, I feel like we're struggling with similar things at the last hurdle, just dipping below goal weight then bouncing back up again. I'm sure it has to do with mindset and balance, and we'll get there! Your insights and ponderings are rally helpful to me. There was something you said yesterday, that theoretically for maintenance calories in should equal calories expended. I guess we need to have super-scientific accurate measuring tools to be sure of that, but I personally feel that even to maintain I need to have a small daily deficit. I know that's not the science, but that's how it feels. Stay on track!

Your making me want a tablet too! I have been looking at the Samsungs. It is a great idea for the treadmill or bike. And I want a new phone too, uhg! Enjoy your cake, you can have this!

tablets are great. i do have one, but not a real tablet, it's the nook - the e-reader by barnes & noble. and it has internet access and apps and stuff like that. so it is pretty great. i'm pretty sure that you will stay under 80kg if you have done your surgery. but you're a person with a great will and i'm sure, that you will be able to do so before your surgery. keep going, and enjoy that great cake today!

JP - I have the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 3G+Wifi - actually the whole family have one each, and we love 'em! It's essential for us to have the 3G version, so you can go online no matter where you are. Alternatively, some new smart phones can function as a wifi hotspot, so that's another way to get around it. But it's NICE to be able to surf online and do other things on the go. And for journaling on the bike, it's a nice, handy and light option, and easier to use than my smartphone.

Baked Salmon is my favourite too, I love mine with soy sauce and ginger before I wrap it in foil, (so it keeps very moist). I like to serve it with baked jacket potatoe and raw julienne carrots and zucchini, which have had a tiny sprinkle of soy sauce and sesame seeds.

There she goes again with her mouth watering recipes, Keld. Hope the interview goes better than expected, hope you enjoy your wife's cake. And 79.6kg is for sure better than 80.6kg. It's how you got here, one kg at a time.

Salmon is so good but I'm the only one who will eat it so it isn't something that I get to eat a lot. Enjoy your Mud Pie.

Keld, I laughed so hard when I read your comment about the mud pie going straight to your butt checks! Thanks for a great laugh first thing in the morning! I needed that!
