Hi Kitty congrads on you not smoking. Can I ask you a question please? I have just started atkins and been on it for 8 days. Since I have cut back on sugar and carbs I seen to crave (cigs) more. I was just wondering if this is common to smokers or is it just me. lol And if you have any tips to help cut down I would love to hear them. I am eventually gonna stop smoking altogether, but I have that as a mini goal once I start losing weight and getting my body use to this new way of eating an thinking.

Congrats on not smoking,! I gave up 3 months ago and double that with christmas and I was also looking at over a 15lbs gain. Was horrified! lol. The benefits outweigh the weight gain, good luck!

Good luck, Kitty! I quit smoking last year while doing Hcg and then Atkins. I did it all at the same time! It was crazy, but I like to push myself beyond what others think is possible. I lost 25 pounds and stopped smoking all at the same time. The trouble with addiction (I am very much an addictive personality)----you will learn to replace one addiction with another. I can't speak for you, but just be careful you aren't replacing the cigarettes with the food (which 9/10 times people are) which is why statistically we gain weight when we quit. I used Chantix----sure you've heard of it! Totally worth it for me---the first day I took the pill, cigs tasted horrible even though you can smoke for a week on the Chantix. I smoked that week and my evil self tested that dang theory of smoking past a week, and sure enough---I found myself running to the bathroom to vomit. I have a horrible fear of vomitting so that was enough for me. :) I've picked up cigs on occasion since then, for maybe a week/2-3 weeks max during stresser times, but I guess I'm just in the zone now where I want to prove to myself that I can beat the odds. I don't really count the relapses because I put them right back down after I convinced myself that I was more important. If you feel you can handle tackling both at the same time- I say go for it. Atkins works for some people, but it's very strict at first ---you could always start with a modified version: Aiming for 40% protein, 25 % carb, and 35 % fat. Just toy around with "healthy" options and see where it leads you. YOU are WORTH it! Keep with that quitting smoking because as the others said- the benefits are awesome! If you work in some exercise you will feel a sudden relief off your shoulders---even without the weightloss! Get 'em girl! You can do it!
