I am on Day 7 of Phase One and I've lost 8 pounds so-far. I've done the South Beach Diet before, and lost copious amounts of weight, but I always ended up gaining the weight back, and then-some.

What's different about this time? Last week I started reading the Beck Diet Solution, which uses cognitive therapy techniques to help you change the way you diet. I'm using the teachings of this book in tandem with the South Beach Diet, and the results have been great. I am halfway through the Beck Diet Solution and have already learned so much about myself and how I used to diet. I feel like now that I know what I've been doing wrong all this time--and why--I won't go back to my old behavior again. I really think I have the tools to achieve success with my diet this time: to not just lose the weight, but maintain the weightloss.

I had my second (and probably final) child 5 months ago--a boy. I also have a 6-year old daughter. I gained 50 pounds with both pregnancies, but I lost that weight with relative ease, keeping it down to 3 healthy meals a day and semi-regular jogging. The weight that's been so stubborn is that which I've accumulated over the course of my marriage--married 11 years and still 40 pounds heavier than when I said those vows. It's the marriage weight that I have to now lose.

Goodbye 170's...135 pounds, here I come.

The only way I have found to keep the weight off that I have already lost is to make diet changes that you can live with for the rest of your life, and maintain an exercise plan. I still have more to go and it is not easy. It sucks to think I will always have to watch what I eat, but I don't like the alternative (so I will do it). Good luck to you!

Great job!! It is definitely about making a lifestyle change. I have done this diet before and gradually gained weight back but I was eating whatever I wanted. This time, I have changed my way of life. And I hope to keep it this way. By the way, we seem to be in the same boat as far as babies, marriage and weight gain. I started this website when my son was 5 months old, he is now almost 11 months old and I have lost 34 lbs. You can do it!!

Thank you all for your encouraging remarks. I hadn't seen them before now (am still learning how to navigate this website ;), and now is when I really need them because I'm trying to regain my confidence after falling off the wagon last week. I've been beating myself up all morning for getting back up to 180 pounds, and it's done me no good. Positive thinking really helps, so your kind words mean a lot.
