Jade_1234's Journal, 01 April 2015

Yesterday I ate an entire large bag of potato chips driving home from the grocery store. I had bought fresh salmon for dinner and knew that there was cauliflower and mashed potatoes for dinner. When dinner was ready I ate it so the family would not know I had eaten the chips.

I love salty, crunch food and will eat chips when I am stressed or hungry; even when I'm not hungry -- it is such a guilty pleasure.

I want to stop eating junk food (potato chips!) and learn to curb my eating at night.

You are not alone in this respect. I did the same thing for months. I was eating on my commute home, then to hide it and not disappoint my family by skipping our dinners, I ate again. It's tough, in a lot of different aspects....emotionally, physically, mentally. It takes a toll. You can do it. Mind over matter. You will slip up from time to time, but just realize what you are doing in that moment, and stop the action. Best of luck our your journey to health.

Don't know if this will help but many of us have been closet eaters. Recognizing it is the first step and then trying to plan for it is the next logical step. When I used to commute and even today when I have to make the 45 minute trip to town, I pack a snack. The snack is not for the trip in but the one coming home. I, too, love salty crunchy so I pack a few pork rinds, celery with cream cheese, or a handful of almonds. Now that I plan, I find that I am not craving the snack and often just bring it back home for another time. And then there are those days that I can hardly wait to be on the road knowing I passed up the temptations in town and at the grocery and have a "good for me" snack in the car. You can do it I just know you can.

Me too! Salty crunchy items are my weakness as well. Nuts, chips and popcorn. I really love popcorn. I am fortunate that my kids are grown and gone and my husband is trying to lose weight too. So we don't bring any of that stuff in the house.

Thank you for all the positive notes :) Knowing I'm not the only one certainly helps.
