I've decided to try and make a serious effort to be vegan. My body seems to be much happier when I do. I went to the library yesterday and got some vegan cookbooks. Two Of them have cheese in the title. I did experiment with sprinkling nutritional yeast on my popcorn and it was pretty tasty!

I did make the black bean brownies. They were tasty but texturally they were less brownie more cheesecake. Very weird. Any suggestions to fix that?

Bought some pink beans and pigeon peas and I can't wait to play with those. I wanted to buy this 15 bean soup mix, but it came with a ham powder ugh! Tonight's dinner will be homemade tomato basil soup.I hope.

Thanks! I think that's going to be the key to success, just planning everything out.

I couldn't go vegan myself, but I wish you the best of luck! I have been enjoying experimenting with fun new plant based proteins though.

Instantcrazy, those 15 or 20 bean mixes make some awesome soup. Leave that fake flavoring packet out. I don't think I could do total vegan either but also feel better eating little animal proteins. Hope it works for you.

Alhuey what proteins have you been experimenting with? I've pretty much given up eggs already. It's the milk that has been my last hurdle. I've learned my body functions much better without cheese which is so sad because I love cheese. As for milk that's going to be a little harder because so many manufacturers put milk in everything! My sister has a milk allergy and they were buying frozen green beans or something at the store one day her husband jokingly told her aren't you going to check for milk in the ingredients and she checked and it was there. What? I'm definitely not going to be too hard on myself about it but my body seems to like not having animal proteins. I tried the eat right for your type diet about a million years ago and my blood type said I would do well as a vegetarian. I didn't put much effort into it because I didn't want to be vegetarian, but maybe there is something to it after all.

Wholefoodnut I thought maybe I would mix my own beans, I was just afraid some residue would be on the beans from the plant. Also you said you played around with the black being as a flour replacement did you have much luck with it?

Sorry it wasn't me using black bean flour. I use garbanzo bean flour, I add some to my bread, so whole grain, seeds, and beans = complementary protein. I also use it when I bread any veggies and in making veggie burgers.

I use mostly unsweetened plain almond milk now, it has worked in most everything. I gave up milk and sugar/sweetener in my coffee last year and I was trying to cut back on fat intake. Some here would say I need more fat but I discovered the higher fat was giving me stomach aches. In reality if you don't buy processed foods they won't have milk, sugar or salt added.
