Ceebee's Journal, 01 March 2011

Well my weigh in today was good.. I am hoping to keep up the good work.. The main thing is giving up going out to eat. That has been HUGE! Having the kids on board about eating at home has been nice. I know it has only been like 10 days but they are like my little buddy system. One of them may want to go out then the other reminds them that we are saving for our trip to Fla. This week my son tried some new foods.. he was really good about it. (for those of you following along at home he is a terribly picky eater) He tried pork tender loin, summer sausage (that was from his dad, but I am still glad he tried it) and brussels sprouts. The only winner was the summer sausage. I was bummed because last time I made BS they were freaking awesome.. this time they were crazy bitter. I didn't even want to eat them.. I choked down 1 serving and the other three will be tossed out.. Last time I made them I ate them all before my husband could even try them. (I made them during the day and ate them all before he got home from work) I made them the same way both times.. if anyone has any ideas.. let me know. It is a sad tale...

My son is a super picky eater too! Every day i ask him if he wants to try my veggies, and every day i try a new approach, and every day he reminds me "you know i dont eat veggies, mom!!" lol On the plus side, I have tricked him into eating fruits in the form of smoothies. I need to start experimenting with sneaking veggies into the smoothies... Great job on the weight loss, by the way! :)

Way to go on the good weigh in, and also not eating out! It always helps to have your family on board. Maybe the brussel sprouts were a little green and not ready to eat yet? I am not a brussel sprout cooker so I really have nothing.

I too have a picky eater. At 17 she is finally trying a few new foods. She is a self pronounced Meataterian. She states that she does not eat things that grew in the ground, she eats things that ate things that grew in the ground. I have finally got her to eat a baked potato (with tons of butter, cheese and bacon). Still not the healthiest choice. She will eat fried rice. Otherwise she does not eat veggies. She is active and does not weigh a 100 pounds, so her doctor says to leave her alone. She has watched me struggle to lose weight and get in shape. Hopefully when her metabolism slows and she starts to gain weight she will try cutting back on the meat and explore vegetables.

Actually it could be that the brussels were old - sometimes they sit around too long in the grocery store and look ok, but they get more bitter over time. I have a picky eater too so I feel your pain.

I put a little milk and butter in with my brussel sprouts when I am cooking them. The milk takes out the bitterness somehow. LOVE EM that way. Hatem any other way.
